The Geranium daffodil bulbs you receive from us should be stored in a dry, cool place with good air circulation before planting. If you cannot plant them immediately upon delivery, store the bulbs in a paper bag or a breathable crate. This will prevent premature sprouting. For a permanent location, choose a spot in direct sun or partial shade; they thrive, for example, as underplanting beneath deciduous shrubs. The soil should ideally be well-drained, loamy, and rich in humus. This prevents waterlogging, which could lead to bulb rot. Daffodils are generally low-maintenance and easy even for absolute beginners to grow, so there is no need to worry about complicated procedures.
Planting takes place during the autumn months, ideally from September to November, before the soil freezes. Plant the bulbs at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters with the tip facing up. The recommended spacing is approximately 10 to 15 centimeters apart, which corresponds to about fifty bulbs per square meter. After planting, it is important to gently firm the soil and water it slightly so that the bulbs root well before the first hard frosts arrive. They require only moderate moisture, so do not overwater.
During April and May, you can look forward to a flood of fragrant white-orange flowers that reach a height of 35 to 45 centimeters. Their sturdy stems do not require any support, and the plants do not need to be pinched back in any way. The Geranium daffodil is excellent for cutting for a vase, where it stays fresh for a long time, while its flowers act as a huge magnet for bees, bumblebees, and other useful pollinators. However, they are not suitable for drying and are not edible.
After flowering, it is absolutely crucial to let the green leaves naturally yellow and dry out directly in the flower bed. The plant draws vital nutrients back into the bulb from them for successful flowering in the next season. The bulbs are fully frost-hardy down to -34 °C, so they can safely remain in the ground over the winter without any covering.
The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.
