Nectaroscordum siculum
Even a complete beginner can handle growing Thalia daffodils, as they are very low-maintenance perennials. The key to success is correctly timing the autumn planting, which takes place from September to November. Find them a spot in the garden in full sun or partial shade. Well-draining soil is very important to prevent rotting. Place the bulbs into prepared holes at a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters with the narrow tip pointing straight up. We recommend a spacing of 5 to 10 centimeters, which will create a continuous display in the spring. If you are planting the bulbs a while after delivery, remember to keep them in a dry, cool place in the meantime so they do not lose their vitality.
During the spring months, daffodils usually do not require heavy watering; normal spring rains will fully suffice. Water lightly only during periods of significant drought. Once they bloom with aromatic white flowers in April and May, they will attract bees and other pollinators to the garden. The plants are excellent for cutting. However, keep in mind the important rule that once the flowers have faded or you have cut them, you must allow all the green foliage to die back naturally in the garden. Only when the leaves have turned completely yellow and dried out can you safely remove them. The bulb needs time to store energy to survive the winter and bloom successfully the following year.
These daffodils are extremely frost-hardy and can easily withstand temperatures dropping to -34 °C. Therefore, we do not dig them up for the winter; they will safely overwinter in their planting spot. The biggest risk for them is heavy, waterlogged soil, in which bulbs easily succumb to Fusarium or grey mold. By following the correct planting depth and choosing lighter, well-draining soil, you can easily avoid these problems.
The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.
