Wedding Entourage for Peonies
A collection in soft, neutral tones for sunny or light-shade spots. It contains species that love good, moist soil. It works great with peonies, but also with smooth or panicle hydrangeas. Keep in mind that peonies bloom best when exposed to at least six hours of sun per day, so reserve the sunniest spot in the bed for them. All perennials in the collection are also suitable for cutting.
When planning, count on an average of six to seven perennials per m², depending on your soil quality and your specific goals. In nutrient-rich and sufficiently moist soil, perennials will grow faster and spacing can be wider to start; in poorer conditions, it is better to plant more densely. The amount of time you can dedicate to garden maintenance will also be a deciding factor.
You can work creatively with our collection and tailor it to your needs and your garden. In your cart, you can easily adjust plant quantities and choose appropriate species or cultivar substitutions. For example, if you already grow peonies and just need suitable perennial companions, you can simply keep only the perennials in your cart. During autumn shopping, you can take advantage of available bulbs and order the complete collection, including narcissi and alliums, which will ensure your bed is full of flowers throughout spring and summer. A big bonus is the selection of seeds. It consists of proven annual species that are easy to grow so that they bloom at the same time as the peonies. You can either direct-sow them directly into your perennial bed or grow them separately to harvest for bouquets.

The Spanish Bluebell is a beautiful bulbous plant native to southwestern Europe, where it grows in light deciduous forests. Multiple leaves grow from the bulb, but only one flower stalk. The plant propagates well on its own in the right location via daughter bulbs and seeds, creating colonies. It blooms from May to June. The leaves die back soon after flowering. For the longest vase life, it is best to harvest them just before the florets open. Then they last up to 14 days in a vase.

Delicate, decorative, long-lived shade-loving perennials with pinnate leaves and magnificent feathery inflorescences. They originate primarily from East Asia, but also from eastern North America. They look best in mass plantings. Due to relatively late sprouting, it is good to combine them with early-flowering bulbs. Lasts 4–10 days in a vase. Harvest as soon as half of the inflorescence is in bloom. They are very sensitive to ethylene released from ripening fruit. Peach Blossom has soft pink flowers.

Chasmanthium is one of the most charming ornamental grasses, bringing movement and a gentle rustling sound to the garden. It originates from the eastern part of North America, where it naturally grows in light, damp forests or on the banks of streams, so it is best suited to partial shade and humous, non-drying soil. Astrantia is a charming long-lived perennial with palmately lobed leaves and pure white flowers that will liven up any flowerbed. In nature, it grows in damp meadows or light forests, so it will thrive best for you in partial shade and in loamy, humous soil with plenty of moisture. The original species grows in damp habitats from Europe to Siberia, making it an ideal plant for humus-rich and moister soils. If you have a spot in the garden that is not explicitly dry, Jacob's ladder will reward you with vital growth and abundant blooming. Its leaves are divided and arranged so regularly that they resemble the rungs of a ladder. This is where its common name, Jacob's ladder, comes from. During June and July, stems with pure white flowers adorned with delicate yellow stamens tower above the clumps of leaves. The White Pearl variety grows to a height of around 80 centimeters and looks very airy in perennial beds. It is perfectly suited for partially shaded areas but will also tolerate sun if provided with regular watering. The flowers are a magnet for bees and other beneficial insects. Floristically, Jacob's ladder is valuable for its longevity and decorative appearance. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply need to transplant into a flowerbed. There, it will become a valuable element early in the spring thanks to its early sprouting green leaves. The flowers themselves then enter the scene in May and June.
Although it is a short-lived perennial, it reliably self-seeds in a suitable location, so you definitely won't lose it in your garden. Columbine flowers act as a great attraction for bees and bumblebees, and the entire plant is absolutely low-maintenance, making it easy to grow even for beginners. It does not require support and can withstand very severe frosts dropping below thirty degrees.
For cutting, it is best to choose freshly opened blooms, and they will last about seven days in a vase. Since the plant is not suitable for drying, it will bring you joy primarily outdoors in the garden or in the aforementioned spring vases. During the season, just occasionally check if it is bothered by aphids or powdery mildew; otherwise, it needs no special attention.
The 'Black Barlow' variety catches the eye with double flowers in an unconventional shade of very dark purple. They look fantastic both in the flowerbed and in bouquets.
