Avens Totally Tangerine will brighten any garden with its cup-shaped flowers in warm shades that resemble the color of ripe tangerines. The original botanical species of this cute avens originate from the mountainous regions of Chile, which is why it thrives best even in our conditions in well-drained, humus-rich, and loamy soil. It handles frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees without problems, and even complete beginners can easily handle caring for it, as it does not suffer from diseases or pests. You will get an already grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply transplant straight into the flowerbed in sun or partial shade. It is ideal to plant the plants about half a meter apart. Although it is a short-lived perennial, it will make up for everything with its incredible persistence in blooming. Unlike other avens, the Totally Tangerine variety starts its blooming season a little later, but in return, it will delight you without a break from May to September. The semi-double flowers also gradually transition into a deep salmon to dark peach color and are a literal magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. In a flowerbed, it functions excellently as a filler plant, nicely connecting other perennials with its neutral structure.
You will also enjoy the blooming avens at home. It is excellently suited for cutting into summer bouquets. Phlox, known as 'plamenka' in Czech, is originally a native perennial from the moister meadows and forest edges of North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the nineteenth century. It is a classic garden perennial that brings a romantic mood and abundant floods of flowers to summer beds. The approximately one meter tall straight stems are adorned with deep green leaves and bear dense inflorescences on top from July to August. At the same time, the whole plant smells very pleasantly, which acts as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies from the wide surroundings.
Although phlox is very easy to grow and even complete beginners can manage the care, it pays to pay attention to the correct choice of location. We send customers already mature seedlings in a pot, which you can easily transplant directly into the garden. Here, phlox thrives best in a sunny to semi-shady location with loamy, humous, and well-drained soil. It is ideal to keep a spacing of about fifty centimeters when planting so that each clump has enough space to grow. They like plenty of moisture, and stable humidity is important to them. During severe drought, they can react sensitively and be more susceptible to powdery mildew, so they will welcome more abundant watering in the hot summer. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about pests; they avoid it. As for winter, you can throw your worries behind you, because the plant can handle severe frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees.
In ornamental beds, phlox stands out both individually in larger groups and in combination with other summer perennials or shorter ornamental grasses. Furthermore, it is an absolutely ideal plant for cutting into vases. It will lend your home not only beautiful pastel colors but also its unmistakable sweet scent. We recommend harvesting stems for bouquets when approximately half of the flowers in the main inflorescence are already fully open. If you provide them with clean water, they will reward you with extraordinary durability and will easily last ten days in a vase.
The Franz Schubert variety attracts with purple to pink flowers that fade towards the edges. The pastel color stands out in the vicinity of darker-colored plants.

Choosing the ideal location and soil preparation
For successful cultivation of Jacob's ladder 'Blue Pearl', choosing the right spot is crucial. This perennial naturally seeks out cooler locations with higher humidity, so partial shade suits it best. If you want to place it in direct sun, it is possible, but only provided you ensure it gets truly sufficient and regular watering. It requires humus-rich, loamy, and well-drained soil that can still retain necessary moisture. Overly dry or sandy soil does not suit it. Before planting the seedling, we recommend enriching the soil with mature compost, which will improve its structure and water retention.
Planting and care during the season
We plant the seedlings in the prepared soil at a spacing of approximately 40 cm, which corresponds to a density of 6 to 9 plants per square meter. This spacing provides the plants with enough room to develop while allowing for a closed canopy to form. Since it is a plant with high moisture requirements (moisture 💧💧💧), it is necessary to water it regularly, especially on hot summer days. Jacob's ladder is generally a very healthy and robust plant that does not suffer from common diseases. Although it is listed in the attributes as being pest-free, in moister, shady spots it is advisable to proactively check for the presence of slugs, which might find its succulent leaves tasty.
Pruning, second bloom, and use
A great advantage of this variety is its ability to bloom repeatedly. Once the first wave of azure blue flowers finishes blooming in June or July, we recommend a complete cutback. By doing this, you will encourage the plant to produce new, fresh green leaves and, most importantly, to set flowers again, which you will see in September. The flowers are also great for cutting into vases – cut them when about the first third of the flowers are open, and they will stay beautiful for up to 10 days.
Frost resistance and container growing
Jacob's ladder 'Blue Pearl' is an exceptionally hardy perennial that handles frosts down to -40 °C (zone 3a). Therefore, it needs no special protection or covering for the winter; it reliably overwinters even in the coldest regions of our country. Customers often ask about growing in pots – yes, it is possible. However, for growing in containers, choose sufficiently large and deep pots and ensure that the substrate never dries out completely. In a container, the plant is more susceptible to overheating and drying out of the root ball than in open ground.

Harvest for bouquets when the tiny flowers are fully open. It lasts 10 days in a vase. Terracotta features ochre, shades of orange and yellow, and gray-green foliage.

Russian sage Little Spire
Perovskia are sparsely branched subshrubs, originating from areas ranging from Afghanistan to Tibet. They grow in open, sunny, rocky, and stony habitats. Their white-felted shoots and grayish aromatic leaves are striking. They fit well in sunny flower beds with other drought-loving perennials, where they create interesting structures even in the winter months. Little Spire is a smaller cultivar suitable even for pots with a soil volume of 7 liters or more.
