Pěstování pomněnkovce velkolistého je radostí pro každého, kdo potřebuje oživit stinná místa zahrady, protože tato dlouhověká trvalka nevyžaduje složitou péči. Pro úspěšný růst je naprosto klíčový výběr správného stanoviště. Rostlina prosperuje v polostínu až stínu, ideálně pod korunami stromů nebo u severních stěn budov. Snese i mírné ranní slunce, ale polední úpal by jí mohl popálit velké dekorativní listy. Půda by měla být hlinitá, humózní a schopná zadržovat vlhkost, ale zároveň dostatečně propustná, aby nedocházelo k zahnívání kořenů. Pomněnkovci se daří i v těžších jílovitých půdách, pokud jsou obohaceny o organickou hmotu, která zajistí potřebnou strukturu.
Jelikož obdržíte již vzrostlou sazenici, můžete ji vysazovat prakticky po celou vegetační sezónu, ačkoliv nejvhodnějšími termíny jsou jaro a podzim, kdy je půda přirozeně vlhčí. Při výsadbě dodržujte spon zhruba 40 cm (přibližně 5–7 rostlin na m²), aby měly listy dostatek prostoru k rozvinutí a vytvoření zapojeného porostu. Po výsadbě je nutné rostliny důkladně zalít. Vláha je pro pomněnkovce zásadní – půda by neměla nikdy zcela vyschnout. Pokud pěstujete rostlinu na místě, kam občas zasvitne slunce, musíte zálivku přizpůsobit a zalévat častěji.
Během sezóny je údržba minimální, ale několik zásahů rostlině prospěje. Po odkvětu, což bývá v červnu, se doporučuje provést úplný zpětný řez odkvetlých stonků a starších listů. Tento krok podpoří tvorbu nových, zdravých a vizuálně atraktivních listů, které budou zdobit záhon až do podzimu. Co se týče hnojení, stačí na jaře zapravit do půdy kompost nebo použít pomalu rozpustné hnojivo pro trvalky. Největším nepřítelem těchto rostlin jsou slimáci a plzáci, kteří milují jejich šťavnaté listy. Je proto nutné porosty pravidelně kontrolovat a případně aplikovat ochranu, ať už ve formě bariér nebo biologických přípravků. Naopak chorobami pomněnkovec netrpí a je velmi odolný.
Z hlediska mrazuvzdornosti jde o šampiona, který zvládá teploty až do -40 °C (zóna 3a), takže na zimu nepotřebuje v záhonu žádnou speciální ochranu. Na jaře pouze odstraníte odumřelé zbytky listů z minulé sezóny. Často se ptáte, zda lze pomněnkovec pěstovat v nádobách či truhlíku. Ano, je to možné a rostlina vypadá v květináči velmi efektně, zejména jako podsadba pod vyšší stromky nebo v kombinaci s jarními cibulovinami. Pro pěstování v nádobě zvolte dostatečně velký květináč s odtokovým otvorem a nezapomeňte na drenážní vrstvu. V nádobě rostlina vyžaduje častější zálivku, protože substrát rychleji vysychá, a v zimě je vhodné květináč obalit jutou nebo polystyrenem, aby nepromrzl kořenový bal, který je nad zemí zranitelnější než ve volné půdě.

The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.
