Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding, Loukykvět
Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding, Loukykvět

Papaver orientale

Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding

Oriental poppy Royal Wedding is an unmissable perennial that brings true elegance to the spring garden. It originally comes from the harsher conditions of the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on sunny rocky slopes and dry meadows. Because of this, it is exceptionally resilient, easily handling frosts down to minus forty degrees, and can do without complex care. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant to a sunny location with well-drained loamy soil. The cultivar Royal Wedding will reward you in May and June with huge bowl-shaped flowers with pure white petals, which hide a distinct dark burgundy spot in their center. Moreover, these enchanting flowers reliably attract pollinators from far and wide. It is typical for Oriental poppies that their strikingly fuzzy green leaves die back soon after flowering. The plant takes a break over the warmest summer to gather strength, and a smaller portion of the leaves often sprouts again only at the end of summer. Therefore, it is ideal to plant the poppy in the flower bed in close proximity to other perennials that sprout slightly later and naturally fill the empty space left by the resting poppy. It avoids diseases and needs no support, reaching a height of around sixty to eighty centimeters. Just watch out for field voles, which might develop a taste for its fleshy roots. Otherwise, it is a long-lived plant that even a complete beginner can handle without worries. Given that the plant is poisonous, it is naturally not intended for consumption. The giant white flowers are also a great attraction for lovers of cut flowers, although they require a little trick. Similar to other poppies, the stems need to be harvested exactly at the moment when the buds begin to color and slightly crack. Right after cutting, we sear the ends of the stems with a flame for about twenty seconds to prevent sap leakage, and then we put them into cold water. Thanks to this procedure, they will stay beautiful for about four days in a vase and add amazing lightness to bouquets. Although these delicate flowers are not suitable for drying, they simply have no competition in fresh spring bouquets. Show full description

Knautia Red Knight, Loukykvět

Knautia macedonica

Macedonian scabious is an abundantly and long-blooming, undemanding perennial that will bring the untamed charm of summer meadows to the garden. Its wild form originates from the sun-drenched Balkans, where it naturally grows on sunny hillsides and in warm thickets. Here it will quickly take root and form a vigorous clump. The Red Knight cultivar enchants with slender stems up to ninety centimeters tall, which all summer from June to September carry a flood of dark burgundy to deep wine-red flowers. These edible flowers act as a huge attraction for bees, bumblebees, and other insects. The plant is an ideal choice for beginners because it reliably resists frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees and does not suffer from any pests or diseases. Lady's mantle Irish Silk, Loukykvět

Alchemilla mollis

Alchemilla mollis, known as lady's mantle, is an indispensable perennial for anyone who wants to bring harmony and softness to the garden. Its home is the moister environments of mountain meadows and light forests, making it a very adaptable plant that will survive even severe frosts without problems in our climate. The 'Irish Silk' cultivar is prized for its vitality and abundant blooming, where clouds of tiny, yellow-green flowers float above clumps of gray-green leaves. It is precisely this neutral color that can work wonders in a flower bed – it softens overly sharp contrasts between other flowers and beautifully unifies the entire composition. Besides its ornamental function, lady's mantle also has practical uses. Thanks to its clumping growth and ability to quickly fill in, it is ideal for edging pathways or as an underplanting beneath taller shrubs and roses. Water droplets catch on its leaves, creating a magical spectacle in the garden. If you enjoy making bouquets, you will love lady's mantle as versatile filler greenery that matches almost anything. It will last beautiful for about ten days in a vase, and its inflorescences can also be easily dried without losing too much of their color or shape. Shoofly plant Blue, Loukykvět

Catananche caerulea

Catananche caerulea, commonly known as Cupid's dart, is a charming plant that will win you over with its lightness and airiness. Its scientific name refers to ancient Greek legends, according to which it was used in love potions; today, however, you will appreciate it more for its undemanding nature and unique appearance. It is excellently suited for natural-style gardens, gravel beds, and drought-tolerant plantings, where it beautifully complements other perennials or ornamental grasses. It grows up to ninety centimeters tall and, despite its height, needs no support. The flowers have a lavender-blue color with a darker center and toothed petals at the ends. They bloom gradually from June to September. Cupid's dart loves drought and heat, but on the contrary, it cannot stand winter dampness, which harms it more than frost. If you provide it with a well-drained spot, it will survive temperatures down to -18 °C. It is a rewarding plant for beginner growers and experienced florists alike. Fresh flowers last a week in a vase, but they will bring you the most joy when dried. Harvest them fully open in dry weather and hang them upside down. They will keep their shape and remind you of summer all winter long.

Baby's breath Flamingo, Loukykvět

Gypsophila paniculata

Paniculate baby's breath is originally a plant from the sandy steppes and slopes of southern Europe and central Asia, which has been grown in botanical gardens since the 18th century. Since the mid-19th century, it has also become naturalized in private gardens and became a classic cut perennial. In the garden, it applies excellently in modern-style steppe beds with grasses and drought-tolerant perennials, to which it adds airiness and lightness. The 'Flamingo' cultivar boasts a flood of tiny double flowers in a tender pink color, which last on the plant from July to September. The plant requires full sun and very well-drained, ideally sandy soil, because its deep taproots cannot stand winter dampness. Thanks to them, however, it resists drought excellently and is fully frost-resistant. Sedum Matrona, Loukykvět

Sedum spectabile

Showy stonecrop is one of the longest-living and hardiest perennials you can treat your garden to. It originally comes from the Far East, where it colonizes sunny and dry slopes. We will deliver a mature potted seedling that you can easily transplant straight into the flowerbed after unpacking. The 'Nora Barlow' columbine variety is a historical gem, discovered in Cambridge in the 1980s by the granddaughter of the famous Charles Darwin. Columbine Black Barlow, Loukykvět

Aquilegia vulgaris

The common columbine is a popular and versatile perennial that inherently belongs in both rustic and modern gardens. In the wild, it grows on forest edges and clearings throughout Europe, so a sunny or partially shaded spot with slightly moist, loamy, and humus-rich soil will suit it best in your garden. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply need to transplant into a flowerbed. There, it will become a valuable element early in the spring thanks to its early sprouting green leaves. The flowers themselves then enter the scene in May and June. Although it is a short-lived perennial, it reliably self-seeds in a suitable location, so you definitely won't lose it in your garden. Columbine flowers act as a great attraction for bees and bumblebees, and the entire plant is absolutely low-maintenance, making it easy to grow even for beginners. It does not require support and can withstand very severe frosts dropping below thirty degrees. For cutting, it is best to choose freshly opened blooms, and they will last about seven days in a vase. Cultivation

The Oriental poppy loves the sun, so choose the sunniest possible spot for it in the garden. The soil should ideally be loamy and above all very well-draining, because the plant absolutely cannot stand winter and spring waterlogging. In heavy and wet soils, its fleshy roots can rot. The poppy does not like transplanting, so pick a permanent location for it the first time. If you are considering growing it in a pot, choose a sufficiently deep container with large drainage holes and put a thick layer of drainage at the bottom so the roots do not stand in water.
Once the seedling takes root, it does not require any complicated care and watering should be rather moderate. During the spring, you can fertilize the poppy with a regular perennial fertilizer so it has enough strength to form flowers. Shortly after flowering in May and June, a typical thing happens for the poppy – its leaves begin to turn yellow and the plant retreats underground. It rests through the hottest summer. You can elegantly solve the empty spot in the flowerbed by planting perennials that sprout a bit later in close proximity. Follow a few basic rules when growing:
Plant the seedlings at a distance of 50 centimeters from each other (roughly 4 to 5 plants per square meter).
After flowering, cut off the dead leaves, keeping the bed clean and supporting the plant's vitality.
Do not overwater the soil; the plant is well adapted to occasional drought.
A great advantage is that it does not suffer from any common diseases. The only enemy is the field vole, which often finds the fleshy roots tasty. As for frost resistance, you don't need to worry at all. The plant can handle extreme frosts down to minus forty degrees, so it requires no winter covering.

Oriental Poppy Beauty of Livermere, Loukykvět

Papaver orientale

Oriental poppy Beauty of Livermere brings an unmistakable energy to June flower beds thanks to its giant bowl-shaped flowers. It originally comes from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it is at home on rocky slopes and dry meadows. Therefore, it suits full sun and well-drained, loamy soil with medium moisture. We send customers an already grown seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant straight to the chosen spot at a spacing of fifty centimeters. It is a perennial ideal for beginners, absolutely does not suffer from diseases, and reliably withstands even extreme frosts down to minus forty degrees. The cultivar Beauty of Livermere stands out with a shade sharper red color of the petals than the classic Brilliant variety and reaches a height of around sixty to eighty centimeters. The striking flowers act as a magnet for pollinators. It is typical for Oriental poppies that their strikingly fuzzy green leaves die back after flowering and the plant rests over the summer. New leaves will sprout again at the end of summer. Therefore, we recommend planting other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and cover the empty space. The poppy forms a wonderful spectacle not only in the bed but also in a vase. For use in bouquets, we harvest the stems at the moment when the buds color and slightly crack. The ends of the stems must be seared with a flame for about twenty seconds and immediately placed in cold water, thanks to which the flowers will stay beautiful for four days. The only minor danger to the roots can be the occasional occurrence of the field vole.

Oriental Poppy Coral Reef, Loukykvět

Papaver orientale

Oriental poppy Coral Reef will attract attention at the beginning of summer with its sixty to eighty-centimeter tall stems, on which huge bowl-shaped flowers open in a salmon-pink shade with black spots near the center. Its home is the rocky slopes and dry meadows of the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, thanks to which it is extremely resilient. It can handle harsh frosts down to minus forty degrees, and growing it is easily manageable even for a beginner. It thrives best in full sun in well-drained loamy soil. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which just needs to be transplanted into the bed with a spacing of fifty centimeters, where it will soon offer a rich feast for bees and bumblebees. The plant does not suffer from diseases; the only danger to it is field voles. After flowering, the strikingly fuzzy leaves die back into the ground and the poppy rests. A portion of the leaves will reappear at the end of summer. Therefore, perennials that sprout a bit later and reliably cover the summer pause fit perfectly in its vicinity. The poppy can be excellently used in fresh bouquets. We harvest the buds the moment they fully color and crack. We then sear the end of the stem with a flame for twenty seconds and immediately put it in cold water. This way, they will last you four days in a vase.

Oriental Poppy Brilliant, Loukykvět

Papaver orientale

Oriental poppy Brilliant is a beautiful perennial originating from the regions of the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it naturally grows on rocky slopes and dry sunny meadows. Thanks to this, it will do best in your garden in full sun in well-drained loamy soil. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant straight into the flower bed, where it will root very quickly. In June, you can look forward to huge bowl-shaped flowers on sturdy stems reaching a height of up to eighty centimeters. The Brilliant variety enchants with its radiant scarlet-red petals, which are complemented in the center by dark burgundy to black spots and stamens. These flowers are a great attraction for bees and other pollinators. After flowering, the large fuzzy leaves die back and the plant takes a summer break, so we recommend planting the poppy alongside later-sprouting perennials or ornamental grasses, which will cover the empty space. Even beginners can easily handle its cultivation, the plant does not suffer from common diseases and easily withstands frosts down to minus forty degrees. You only need to watch out for voles, which unfortunately like the taste of its roots. The flowers can also be used for cutting into summer bouquets. We harvest them at the moment when the colored buds begin to open. If you sear the ends of the stems with a flame for about twenty seconds and immediately put them into cold water, they will bring you joy in a vase for up to four days.

Moreover, it is a magnet for pollinators, and its young leaves are even edible, so it also finds use in a natural kitchen.

Sea Holly, Loukykvět
For drying

Eryngium planum

Sea holly is an indispensable perennial for all lovers of naturally styled gardens. It earned its folk name - male fidelity - in times when it was used in herbal medicine as an aphrodisiac, and its roots were even candied as sweets in France and England. Today, however, you will appreciate it mainly for its low maintenance and unique appearance. Its home is on sunny hillsides and dry meadows, so even in our gardens, it will welcome well-drained, even poorer sandy soil and full sun. It produces upright, sturdy stems topped with blue-purple flowers with prickly bracts, which bring interesting structure and a silvery touch to the flowerbeds. It is literally a magnetic plant for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, who find a rich food source on it.
