Chrpa horská je mimořádně vděčná trvalka, která se vám za minimální péči odmění záplavou modro-fialových květů. Sazenice vysazujte na slunné nebo polostinné stanoviště, kde se jim bude dařit nejlépe. Ačkoliv rostlina snese i přímé slunce, v teplejších nížinách ocení spíše chladnější místo s vyšší vzdušnou vlhkostí, což odpovídá jejímu horskému původu. Půda by měla být ideálně hlinitá, kyprá a bohatá na humus, ale zásadní je její propustnost. Těžké a přemokřené jílovité půdy této trvalce nesvědčí, proto je vhodné při výsadbě do jámy přimíchat trochu kompostu nebo písku pro vylepšení struktury. Sazenice sázejte do sponu přibližně 40 cm, což vychází na 6 až 9 rostlin na metr čtvereční, aby měl porost dostatek prostoru pro cirkulaci vzduchu a netrpěl houbovými chorobami.
Během vegetace vyžaduje chrpa střední zálivku (označovanou dvěma kapkami). Půda by měla být stále mírně vlhká, nikoliv však bahnitá. Rostlina je sice zvyklá na drsnější podmínky, ale dlouhodobé sucho může vést k vadnutí listů a slabšímu kvetení. Hnojení není nutné přehánět; stačí na jaře zapravit k trsu trochu kompostu nebo použít univerzální hnojivo pro kvetoucí trvalky. Klíčovým momentem v péči o Centaurea montana je řez. Ihned po prvním odkvětu, který nastává obvykle v červenci, doporučujeme celou rostlinu radikálně seříznout až u země. Tento krok podpoří tvorbu nových, zdravých listů, udrží trs kompaktní (jinak má tendenci se rozvalovat) a často vybudí rostlinu k druhému kvetení na konci léta. Navíc tím zabráníte nechtěnému vysemenění, pokud si nepřejete, aby se chrpa sama šířila po zahradě.
Co se týče zdraví a odolnosti, jedná se o skutečného šampiona. Chrpa horská je extrémně mrazuvzdorná, snáší teploty až do -40 °C (zóna 3a), takže ji na zimu nemusíte nijak zakrývat ani chránit, a to ani v těch nejchladnějších oblastech naší republiky. Dle zkušeností netrpí na běžné škůdce ani choroby, což z ní dělá ideální volbu pro začínající zahradníky nebo pro ty, kteří preferují zahradničení bez chemie. Pokud byste chtěli tuto trvalku pěstovat v nádobě či truhlíku, je to možné, ale nádoba musí být dostatečně prostorná a mít dobrý odtok vody. V květináči substrát vysychá rychleji, proto budete muset častěji zalévat. Pamatujte, že v nádobě jsou kořeny méně chráněné před mrazem než v zemi, proto je vhodné přes zimu květináč obalit izolačním materiálem nebo jej zapustit do země.

An undemanding and modest perennial that blooms with a large number of tiny flowers. It blooms for a record-breaking length of time throughout late summer and autumn. It forms smaller, compact, airy bushes that release a minty-spicy scent. The thyme-like flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It will look good among roses as well as in naturalistic steppe beds, perhaps with lower grasses. This calamint is generally more vigorous.
