The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Cultivation
Pěstování chrastavce z předpěstované sazenice je snadné a zvládne ho každý začátečník. Sazenici vysazujte rovnou na trvalé místo v zahradě, nejlépe na horké slunné stanoviště nebo do lehkého polostínu. Zásadní je výběr správné půdy, která musí být propustná, hlinitá nebo písčitá. Naopak těžkým a trvale přemokřeným půdám se vyhněte. Protože rostlina dorůstá výšky 80 až 100 centimetrů a vytváří štíhlé stonky, rovnou jí zajistěte nenápadnou oporu, aby se pod náporem větru nelámala. Při výsadbě dodržujte spon kolem 50 centimetrů, což odpovídá čtyřem až šesti rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Tento dostatečný rozestup zajistí volné proudění vzduchu kolem listů, což slouží jako nejlepší přirozená prevence proti padlí.
Jakmile chrastavec dobře zakoření, stává se z něj velmi nenáročná trvalka. Výborně snáší sucho, takže zálivku vyžaduje pouze minimální. Ani hnojení není nutné, spíše chudší půda podporuje pevnost stonků. Pokud chcete rostlinu pěstovat na balkoně, vyberte si prostorný květináč nebo truhlík s odtokovými otvory. Na dno umístěte drenáž a zeminu promíchejte s pískem. Rostliny v nádobách vyžadují o něco pravidelnější zálivku než ty na záhoně, ale ani zde nesmí stát ve vodě. Během léta můžete pravidelně odstraňovat odkvetlé výhony, čímž podpoříte tvorbu nových poupat a rostlina pokvete bez přestání od června až do září.
Ačkoliv je chrastavec krátkověká trvalka, na zahradě se snadno udrží přirozeným přeséváním. Stačí, když na konci sezóny necháte několik posledních květů dozrát. S příchodem zimy se o rostlinu nemusíte obávat, je plně mrazuvzdorná až do -28 °C a bez problémů přezimuje venku. Před zimou nebo brzy na jaře pouze odstřihněte zaschlé stonky u země a odstraňte odumřelé listy. Během vegetace občas zkontrolujte měkké vrcholky rostlin, zda se na nich neobjevily mšice, které stačí včas smýt vodou nebo ošetřit šetrným prostředkem.

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.

Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, caused by the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be present in the highest amount in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta likely comes from the name of the ancient Etruscan city Nepet - Nepi in the territory of today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. Nepeta racemosa naturally grows on dry meadows and rocky, stony slopes from the Caucasus to Central Asia. It has aromatic grey-green leaves and forms a tufted semi-spherical bush. Walker’s Low got its name after an Irish estate where it was bred in 1970. It has the most intense blue-violet flower coloration.
