The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Jelikož obdržíte již předpěstovanou sazenici třapatkovky 'White Swan', odpadá vám starost s náročným klíčením a můžete se rovnou pustit do výsadby. Tato trvalka, původem ze severoamerických prérií, je vyloženě světlomilná. Pro úspěšné pěstování vyberte plně osluněné stanoviště, kde se bude rostlině nejlépe dařit a kde její stonky zůstanou pevné a nebudou se vytahovat za světlem. Půda by měla být ideálně hlinitá či písčitá, ale především dokonale propustná. Třapatkovka sice miluje slunce, ale naprosto nesnáší zimní přemokření, které může způsobit uhnívání kořenů. Pokud máte na zahradě těžkou jílovitou půdu, je nezbytné ji před výsadbou vylepšit přidáním písku nebo štěrku, abyste zajistili odtok přebytečné vody. Sazenice vysazujte v rozestupech přibližně 35 cm (cca 8 rostlin na metr čtvereční). Tento spon je důležitý nejen pro estetický dojem, ale také pro dobrou cirkulaci vzduchu, která funguje jako přirozená prevence proti padlí a skvrnitosti listů.
Péče o echinaceu během sezóny není pro začátečníky nijak náročná, přesto si zaslouží vaši pozornost v několika bodech. Po výsadbě sazenici pravidelně zalévejte, dokud plně nezakoření. Jakmile se rostlina uchytí, stává se poměrně tolerantní k suchu a snese i krátkodobé přísušky, což oceníte v horkých letních dnech. Pozor si však dejte na škůdce, zejména na jaře, kdy mladé a křehké lístky s oblibou vyhledávají slimáci a plzáky. V průběhu léta se mohou objevit mšice, které lze spláchnout proudem vody nebo použít přírodní postřik. Aby vám 'White Swan' dělala radost co nejdéle, doporučujeme pravidelně odstraňovat odkvetlé květy. Tím rostlinu podpoříte v nasazování nových poupat a prodloužíte dobu kvetení až do září. Na podzim můžete nechat poslední květenství na rostlině – zaschlé terče (ježci) vypadají v zimní zahradě, poprášené námrazou či sněhem, velmi efektně a navíc slouží jako potrava pro ptactvo. Rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná až do -34 °C, takže zimní kryt obvykle nepotřebuje.
Třapatkovku lze s úspěchem pěstovat i v nádobách, pokud nemáte k dispozici zahradu. Vzhledem k tomu, že se jedná o vzrostlejší trvalku dosahující výšky 80–100 cm, je nutné zvolit dostatečně velký a stabilní květináč, aby se ve větru nepřevrhl. Důležité je zajistit, aby nádoba měla na dně drenážní otvory a vrstvu keramzitu nebo štěrku, protože v květináči je riziko přemokření kořenů ještě vyšší než ve volné půdě. Pamatujte také na to, že echinacea je sice trvalka, ale řadí se mezi takzvané krátkověké trvalky. To znamená, že na jednom místě vydrží v plné kondici několik let, ale postupně může stárnout a slábnout. Rostlina se však na stanovišti často sama přesévá, nebo ji můžete po několika letech na jaře rozdělit a rozsázet, čímž ji zmladíte a zajistíte si její přítomnost na zahradě po dlouhou dobu.
