Fragrant Rose Companions
The collection of fragrant perennials is a selection that works well as a companion to large-flowered, shrub, or even climbing roses. However, you can easily use it on its own. It provides a romantic, delicate atmosphere and we can imagine it in a sunny front garden by a country house as well as in modern garden designs. The perennials in this collection have the same requirements as roses – a full dose of sun, nutrient-rich yet well-drained soil, and the possibility of watering during the warm season. The colors and shapes of the flowers are selected so that they leave the roses plenty of room on stage, but still function well without them. That is why airy umbels and the ethereal foliage of Fennel meet the austere and upright spikes of Agastache. The tiny flowers of Nepeta pre-bloom the summer Phlox and serve as a shape contrast. Blue Nepeta creates contrast, while pink creates harmony. And the color palette of Phlox is even richer; we can choose our favorite or coordinate with the rose blooms. The silvery-gray leaves of Artemisia provide a neutral base and elegance to the bed. And the combination with Clematis? That is a classic in the world of roses. This species naturally creates ground cover or can lean on a structure, fence, or the branches of roses and shrubs. A flood of fragrant flowers is certain in both cases. The last perennial is Saponaria, which we mention last because the fragrance of its flowers stands out beautifully in the evening after a hot day. For Phlox lovers, we have a tip for their annual variety. It is good to pre-grow them; they will appreciate the same conditions as most of the perennials in this collection, i.e., plenty of sun and regular watering.
When planning, count on an average of six to seven perennials per m², though it always depends on the soil quality in your garden and your intentions. In nutrient-rich and sufficiently moist soil, perennials will grow faster, and the distances between them can be larger at first; in poorer conditions, it is better to plant more densely. The time you can dedicate to garden maintenance will also be a deciding factor.
Our collection allows you to work creatively and adapt it to your needs and your garden. You can easily adjust plant counts and appropriate species or cultivar substitutions in your cart. For example, if you already grow some of the perennials from this collection and just need to supplement your flowerbed, you can keep only your chosen perennials in the cart. The Sir Winston Churchill daffodil has rightfully earned the title of king among daffodils. This unmistakable cultivar blooms a little later, usually during April and May, filling your garden with a strong and very pleasant fragrance. On sturdy stems that grow to a height of around fifty centimeters, you will not find just one flower, but a cluster of several smaller ones. Elegant creamy-white outer petals are perfectly complemented by a rich, double-flowered center in soft orange tones. From the green leaves grows a spring splendor that reliably attracts bees and other early pollinators. You will receive quality large bulbs from us, which will easily grow into richly flowering clumps in a sunny or partially shaded bed. Agastache
Agastache rugosa comes from regions of China and Japan, where it naturally grows in sunny and warm locations. Its strikingly toothed green leaves might resemble a nettle at first glance, but they definitely don't sting. On the contrary, when crushed, they reward you with a pleasant mint-anise scent. From the supplied mature potted seedling, after transplanting, a stable and robust perennial reaching a height of around one meter will quickly grow. It thrives best in full sun in well-drained, loamy, or sandy soil. Caring for it is very undemanding, it does not suffer from diseases or pests, and it handles our winters and frosts without any problems. From July to September, it creates rich purple inflorescences that persistently attract bees and butterflies. An added bonus is that these flowers are edible. The plant fits perfectly into perennial beds, where it forms a beautiful vertical element. If you like making bouquets, you will definitely use the purple flowers for cutting. They stay fresh in a vase for approximately seven days and are interesting even after blooming. They also find their use when dried for winter decorations because they perfectly maintain their shape.

Phlox, known as 'plamenka' in Czech, is originally a native perennial from the moister meadows and forest edges of North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the nineteenth century. It is a classic garden perennial that brings a romantic mood and abundant floods of flowers to summer beds. The approximately one meter tall straight stems are adorned with deep green leaves and bear dense inflorescences on top from July to August. The Sternhimmel variety stands out with elegant small flowers with delicate color transitions in light purple and white. At the same time, the whole plant smells very pleasantly, which acts as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies from the wide surroundings.
Although phlox is very easy to grow and even complete beginners can manage the care, it pays to pay attention to the correct choice of location. We send customers already mature seedlings in a pot, which you can easily transplant directly into the garden. Here, phlox thrives best in a sunny to semi-shady location with loamy, humous, and well-drained soil. It is ideal to keep a spacing of about fifty centimeters when planting so that each clump has enough space to grow. They like plenty of moisture, and stable humidity is important to them. During severe drought, they can react sensitively and be more susceptible to powdery mildew, so they will welcome more abundant watering in the hot summer. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about pests; they avoid it. As for winter, you can throw your worries behind you, because the plant can handle severe frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees.
In ornamental beds, phlox stands out both individually in larger groups and in combination with other summer perennials or shorter ornamental grasses. Furthermore, it is an absolutely ideal plant for cutting into vases. It will lend your home not only beautiful pastel colors but also its unmistakable sweet scent. We recommend harvesting stems for bouquets when approximately half of the flowers in the main inflorescence are already fully open. If you provide them with clean water, they will reward you with extraordinary durability and will easily last ten days in a vase.

Clematis 'Mrs R. Brydon' is an unusual and very resilient perennial that brings softness and color to the garden just as summer transitions into autumn. The original species comes from the shrubby and forest edges of East Asia, which is why a location in the sun or partial shade suits it well here too. It will thrive in loamy and humus-rich soil with regular watering. An interesting feature of this clematis is its variable growth. If you provide it with support in the form of a fence or trellis, it will willingly climb up to a height of two and a half meters. However, if you leave it to grow freely without support, it grows like a carpet and forms a dense shrub. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you can simply transplant straight into the garden. Care is easy, it doesn't suffer from diseases or pests, and even beginners can easily manage it. During August and September, it gets covered in an abundance of flowers in a gorgeous lavender-blue shade, which react to the ambient temperature and can interestingly fade or darken. The flowers reliably attract bees and are suitable for cutting into bouquets. When handling, remember that the plant is poisonous.

Common fennel is an imposing aromatic perennial that brings an unrepeatable veil effect into the garden. It originally hails from the Mediterranean, where it grows in sunny places. Therefore, it also prefers full sun and well-drained loamy soil here. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply transplant into the flower bed, spacing them sixty centimeters apart. It grows to over a meter tall and is cultivated for its finely divided leaves in green to bronze shades, but it does not form bulbs. In summer, yellow-green umbels appear, acting as a magnet for bees and other pollinators. The entire plant smells of anise, and both its leaves and flowers are edible. It handles severe frosts without difficulty, doesn't suffer from diseases or pests, and any beginner can manage its care. In a suitable spot, it reliably self-seeds. It pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses, the flowers last seven to ten days in a vase, and the mature umbels can be dried for winter decorations.

Soapwort is an exceptionally hardy and undemanding perennial that will bring a flood of flowers and a delicate sweet scent to the garden. The original wild species grows in sunny and semi-shaded places with loamy or sandy soil, where it forms rich stands and easily survives even very severe frosts. While the wild form can spread too aggressively in flowerbeds, the cultivated double-flowered variants are much more considerate to other plants and stay in their place. From June to September, it reliably attracts bees and butterflies. In the garden, it perfectly complements mixed perennial beds, where it requires no special care or support. It is excellently suited for cutting into summer bouquets. We recommend harvesting the stems when about a third of the flowers are open; then they will stay beautiful in your vase for a full seven days. Large-flowered catmint comes from the Caucasus and Eastern Europe, where it naturally grows in open meadows and pastures. It is a vigorously and uprightly growing clumping perennial that will bring a pleasant aromatic scent to the garden. It thrives best in full sun or light partial shade, in well-drained loamy-sandy soil. It is an absolutely undemanding plant that does not suffer from diseases or pests, requires no support, and playfully handles even severe frosts down to -34 °C. Therefore, even complete beginners can easily manage its care. The Dawn to Dusk cultivar stands out with its delicate flowers in shades of light and old rose. In the garden, it grows to a height of about one meter and reliably attracts bees and other pollinators. It is excellently suited for flowerbeds as a traditional companion to roses, but it also fits beautifully into wilder meadow compositions with ornamental grasses. It blooms profusely from June to September. After the first wave of blooming, we recommend cutting the plant back, which will encourage further growth and the catmint will bloom once more. Furthermore, its flowers are edible and you can successfully cut them for summer bouquets.
