Salvia nemorosa

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.

Verbena officinalis

A tirelessly blooming variety related to the well-known medicinal vervain, it is ideal for perennial plantings as a softening accent. It creates airy, transparent clumps with intensely purple-colored stems and tiny leaves. Soft pink flowers bloom throughout the summer until autumn. They look stunning in beds and containers. In England, where this variety was discovered near the town of Bampton, it overwinters well. Here, it needs the best possible site conditions. Also popular with bees and butterflies.

Hesperis matronalis

A relatively short-lived, biennial to perennial plant with a charming scent and a long flowering period. A beautiful addition to rose beds, also suitable for country-style plantings. We can use it as undergrowth under taller shrubs and trees. It smells noticeably more in the evening and at night, attracting moths. For cutting, we harvest as soon as the first few florets open. The stems can still grow a bit even after cutting, we take this into account when creating arrangements. It lasts 5 to 7 days in a vase.

Alcea rosea plena

Hollyhocks are a necessity for every lover of rural atmosphere. We traditionally associate them with sunny cottage gardens, even though they came to Europe with ancient travelers along the Silk Road all the way from the steppes of Central Asia. And the taste for travel has remained with the hollyhock. It often self-seeds and you will find it in a place where you certainly didn't plant it. Naturally, it is a biennial or short-lived perennial. However, its instability is balanced by beautiful double flowers and a distinct silhouette and height. It is suitable for cutting and was also used for dyeing and as a medicinal plant. The Chater's series includes proven varieties with pompon-like double flowers.

Dianthus cruentus

Hvozdík krvavý vnáší do zahrad to pravé luční kouzlo.

Little Bluestem is a prairie grass originally from North America. In the garden, it can adapt well to various moisture conditions. Its color variability is interesting. It sprouts in shades of gray-green, recolors to purple-brown shades during the season, and remains attractive in shape and color even through winter. The unusually shaped and striking inflorescences are perfectly usable in fresh and dried bouquets. The delicate flowers are elegantly drooping. In summer, it has gray-green coloration. In late autumn, the leaves and spikes of the cultivar Red Frost turn a strikingly reddish color.

Stipa tenuissima

Feather grass flowers capture attention in beds and bouquets with their lightness and delicacy. All feather grasses love full sun and dry, stony, well-drained soil. To look most natural in beds, it is good to plant them in loose groups of several pieces together with other drought-loving perennials and bulbs. Only then do their stems and inflorescences, set in motion by the slightest breath of wind, truly stand out. Stipa 'Ponny Tails' is a species native to the steppes of Mexico, Texas, and Patagonia. Airy, dense clumps of hair-like delicate leaves resemble horsehair. The leaves are green, turning up to straw-colored towards the flowers. In a suitable location, it also self-seeds.

Cultivation

Tyto kosatce milují slunná, horká a suchá místa v propustné půdě, nesnáší přemokření. Právě trvalé vlhko by totiž mohlo vést k uhnívání kořenů.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only.
