Astilbe simplicifolia

Delicate decorative, long-lived shade-loving perennials with pinnate leaves and magnificent feathery inflorescences. They originate primarily from East Asia, but also from eastern North America. They look best in large-scale plantings. Due to relatively late sprouting, it is good to combine them with early-flowering bulbs. They last 4–10 days in a vase. We harvest as soon as half of the inflorescence is in bloom. They are very sensitive to ethylene released from ripening fruit. Anita Pfeifer has pink flowers.

A perennial that finds its place in naturalistic steppe and gravel beds. It attracts bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It is floristically valuable for its flowers with striking bracts, which are also perfect for drying. The roots of some species were formerly eaten candied as sweets in England and France and added to pastries and jellies. A species native to Central Europe originating from clearings, damp meadows, and light forest edges. Usually a biennial or short-lived perennial. In the first year in autumn, the plant forms a basal rosette of leaves; in spring, flowering stems grow from them. Further development depends on the site we choose. Somewhere it survives another season, elsewhere we must rely on self-seeding or plant new plants. All parts of the foxglove are poisonous. Lasts 6 to 8 days in a vase.

Alcea rosea plena

Hollyhocks are a necessity for every lover of rural atmosphere. We traditionally associate them with sunny cottage gardens, even though they came to Europe with ancient travelers along the Silk Road all the way from the steppes of Central Asia. And the taste for travel has remained with the hollyhock. It often self-seeds and you will find it in a place where you certainly didn't plant it. Naturally, it is a biennial or short-lived perennial. However, its instability is balanced by beautiful double flowers and a distinct silhouette and height. It is suitable for cutting and was also used for dyeing and as a medicinal plant. The Chater's series includes proven varieties with pompon-like double flowers.

Cosmos atrosanguineus

Cosmos Cherry Chocolate is a garden cultivar of the original wild species native to Mexico. Due to its striking scent, it is also called chocolate cosmos. Besides the fragrance and unusual coloring, its great advantage is the long flowering period. In our conditions, it will thrive best in a pot on the terrace; we can also sink it, pot and all, into perennial beds and remove it for winter. Cherry Chocolate has the largest flowers of all chocolate cosmos varieties – they can reach up to 7 cm in diameter.

A relatively short-lived, biennial to perennial plant with a charming scent and a long flowering period. A beautiful addition to rose beds, also suitable for country-style plantings. The stems can still grow a bit even after cutting, we take this into account when creating arrangements. It lasts 5 to 7 days in a vase. A beautiful elegant white variant of the original species.

Dicentra spectabilis

The original home of bleeding hearts is Korea and China, where they grow in light deciduous forests. They are classic garden perennials. They will look perfect in nostalgically styled flower beds; the white variant fits well even into naturalistic woodland gardens. They are popular for their heart-shaped flowers hanging on horizontal or arching stems. These weaken and die back some time after flowering; all the plant's energy then concentrates in the roots, and at that moment, we can cut the above-ground part back completely. For the rest of the year, we won't even know the bleeding heart is in the garden. It will remind us of its charm again in the spring. Perfect vase life, at least 7 days. Harvest when the first 3–4 flowers open on the stem. The basic species has pink-white flowers. In spring, the sprouting shoots have a pink tinge.

Cultivation

Lupina ocení slunné stanoviště a propustnou půdu s dostatkem vláhy.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.

Perovskia atriplicifolia

Perovskia are sparsely branched subshrubs, originating from areas ranging from Afghanistan to Tibet. They grow in open, sunny, rocky, and stony habitats. Their white-felted shoots and grayish aromatic leaves are striking. They fit well in sunny flower beds with other drought-loving perennials, where they create interesting structures even in the winter months. Little Spire is a smaller cultivar suitable even for pots with a soil volume of 7 liters or more.
