The bulbs of the ornamental garlic 'Red Mohican' arrive in the best condition, ready for immediate transfer to the bed, so you are spared the hassle of growing from seed. If you don't manage to plant them immediately, store them in a dark, dry place. The ideal time for planting starts at the beginning of September and lasts until the end of December. The key to successful cultivation is choosing a sunny location and the right soil. It should be light, sandy-loamy, and, above all, perfectly permeable. Plant at a depth of 15 cm and provide the bulbs with a spacing of at least 20 cm so they have enough space for future growth and multiplication. Bulbs take root better in cooler soil and prepare safely for winter.
With the arrival of spring, the plant will sprout, and you will soon find that it takes care of itself almost entirely. It excels in its high tolerance to drought, so water only occasionally during extremely dry and hot weeks. Although the garlic grows up to one meter, its robust stems are very stable and definitely do not need support. During June and July, attractive dark red flowers will appear. At this time, as part of the natural cycle, the green leaves will begin to yellow and recede so the plant can save energy for the bulb. You can easily solve this temporary visual deficiency by planting other ornamental perennials around the garlic, which will cleverly hide the empty spaces near the ground with their lush foliage. Cultivating this cultivar is exceptionally joyful because common diseases and pests completely avoid it, saving you a lot of time. You can cut the fragrant and edible heads not only for fresh summer bouquets, but they can also be easily dried upside down.
