Allium stipitatum Mount Everest

The large, premium-sized 20/+ bulbs you receive from us should be stored in a dry, cool, and dark place with good air circulation until planting. Avoid moisture to prevent premature sprouting or the development of mold.

For optimal growth, maintain a spacing of about 50 cm between individual plants. It is recommended to plant 10 to 15 bulbs per square meter, which will provide you with a rich and full flower bed with a beautiful effect in the spring.

Planting takes place in the autumn, ideally from September to November. If the ground is not yet frozen, you can even plant in December. You will receive the bulbs ready for planting – place them with the tip pointing upward at a depth of 15 to 20 cm.

For humans, this garlic is edible and its leaves have a delicate garlic aroma, although it is grown primarily for ornamental purposes. However, be very careful if you have pets. The plant is toxic to dogs and cats, and ingestion may cause them serious health problems.

Yes, its aromatic white flowers are literally a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. It is therefore an absolutely excellent choice for supporting biodiversity and a healthy ecosystem in your spring garden.

Expect blooms during May and June. It produces magnificent, giant spherical inflorescences composed of tiny, pure white star-shaped flowers that rise on sturdy, upright stems to a height of 100 to 120 cm. This is a breathtaking result of Dutch breeding.

Allium stipitatum 'Mount Everest' loves direct sunlight. It grows best in loamy or sandy soil, which must be very well-drained above all else. It cannot tolerate constant waterlogging, which could cause the bulbs to rot during the winter.

Yes, thanks to its extremely high frost resistance (it safely handles temperatures down to -23 °C), you can grow it without worry even in colder regions and higher mountainous areas. The only key factor for it is well-drained, drier soil, rather than warmth.

Definitely! The flowers look fantastic in a vase, where they stay fresh for quite a long time. At the same time, they are ideal for drying. In addition, the faded inflorescences have a beautiful winter effect, so you can even leave them in the flower bed as a decoration throughout the winter.

The most common and effective way to propagate it is by natural division of the clumps. The mother bulb gradually produces daughter bulbs underground. After 3 to 4 years of growth, we recommend digging up the clump in the summer (after the leaves have completely died back), separating the bulbs, and replanting them immediately in new locations.

This cultivar is exceptionally hardy and vigorous. It is not susceptible to any common diseases, and thanks to its strong natural garlic aroma, garden pests—including rodents and deer that otherwise cause damage in gardens—tend to avoid it.

The yellowing and drying of leaves just before or during flowering is an entirely natural process for all tall ornamental alliums and is not a sign of any disease. The plant is simply shifting all its energy from its leaves into the formation of giant blooms.

Growing it is very simple and even a complete beginner can handle it easily. Once you properly plant the purchased bulb in well-drained soil in a sunny spot in the autumn, the plant grows more or less on its own without the need for complex care, regular watering, or fertilizing.
