Growing the ornamental garlic 'Eros' is a source of pure gardening joy, whether you are a very experienced gardener or just shyly introducing yourself to growing your own perennials. The absolute basis for long-term success in this case is selecting the right location. This elegant perennial absolutely loves full sun and requires very well-drained soil, ideally lighter loam or sand, so that the bulbs do not rot during wet months. Garlic will grow well in drier, sandy-loam soil in direct sunlight. It is especially suitable for the front parts of mixed flower beds and also along the edges of garden paths, where its fine structure fully stands out. Because the entire plant, including the flowers and leaves, is fully edible and wonderfully aromatic, you can plant it without any worries directly into an herb garden, where its small flowers will reliably attract bees and colorful butterflies.
The planting of this cultivar always takes place in the autumn, preferably in the months of September, October, and November, when the soil still has an ideal temperature for root formation. Until the planned planting time, store the supplied bulbs in absolute darkness and dryness at a somewhat lower temperature. When planting, follow these proven rules:
As soon as the garlic blooms at the very beginning of summer, it will undoubtedly become an ornament of the entire garden and will also generously offer you excellent and long-lasting flowers for luxury cutting for your home vase. From a design perspective, a great and proven combination is with cushion-forming, drought-tolerant perennials that naturally cover their gradually yellowing leaves once the plant begins shifting important nutrients back into the underground bulb during summer. In terms of overall health, this plant will certainly thrill you, as it is avoided by absolutely all known diseases and common garden pests throughout the year. This single-leaf garlic is also extremely resistant to strong and persistent frosts, so it can easily withstand dropping winter temperatures down to -28 °C. Therefore, there is no need to laboriously dig up the bulbs for winter or protect them complexly with a layer of compost; they overwinter safely and peacefully directly in their permanent location.
The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.
