Perennial and Ornamental Grass Collection with Alliums and Annual Seeds

Hot Summer in Blue

A collection for south-facing gardens with a full dose of daily sun. Dry, rocky, gravelly, and well-drained soil is not a disadvantage here, but rather an advantage. It usually doesn't contain too many nutrients, which is ideal for the plants selected for this collection; excessive fertilization would actually shorten their lifespan. Good soil permeability and its ability to dry out quickly are key. This is the only way to prevent winter waterlogging, which is often fatal for most drought-tolerant plants. If you are looking for blooms that will remind you of a holiday atmosphere with their colors, shapes, and scents, you have found the right pack. It contains plants that will eventually handle drought well. We have focused on structures, provided by Perovskia, Eryngium, and Caryopteris. Combinations with Lavender and Sedum will also provide winter silhouettes. Stachys and Lychnis will connect the entire composition with their silvery-gray color, creating a dense carpet of leaves. Stipa will add movement and elegance; it sprouts relatively quickly in the spring, responds well to pruning, creates new leaves early, and blooms right at the beginning of summer. The inflorescences are very durable, do not tend to fall apart, and will decorate flowerbeds even in winter. And if you can't resist and cut some of them for early summer bouquets, they are capable of blooming again. In a newly established flowerbed, you can sow Nigella seeds in the first year, choosing from white, pink, and blue. In the autumn, add Allium, mixing taller and shorter varieties. Still have space left? You can easily combine this collection with plants from our 'Hot Summer in Pink' and 'Hot Summer in Citrus Tones' collections. You can add more drought-tolerant herbs, fragrant thymes, or perhaps Gaura. When planning, count on an average of six to seven perennials per m², though it always depends on the soil quality in your garden and your intentions. In nutrient-rich and sufficiently moist soil, perennials will grow faster, and the distances between them can be larger at first; in poorer conditions, it is better to plant more densely. The time you can dedicate to garden maintenance will also be a deciding factor. Our collection allows you to work creatively and adapt it to your needs and your garden. You can easily adjust plant counts and appropriate species or cultivar substitutions in your cart. For example, if you already grow some of the perennials from this collection and just need to supplement your flowerbed, you can keep only your chosen species in the cart. Conversely, when shopping in autumn, you can take advantage of available bulbs and order the complete collection including spring bulbs and Allium, which will ensure your garden has plenty of flowers in both spring and summer. Show full description

Allium sphaerocephalon, Loukykvět

Allium sphaerocephalon

The round-headed garlic draws attention with its striking flowers, which form unmistakable dark purple and burgundy dots. It is a summer-blooming variety that reaches a height of about seventy to one hundred centimeters. Its egg-shaped inflorescences, three to five centimeters in size, are densely packed and appear from June to August. Its leaves resemble chives in shape, but it is typical for summer garlic that they begin to naturally yellow and wither during the blooming period. The deep color of the flowers stands out perfectly in mixed prairie plantings alongside delicate ornamental grasses. Furthermore, the dense inflorescences act as a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. Anyone who creates home arrangements will love this plant. The firm, long stems are excellent for cutting into fresh bouquets, and the heads retain their shape and color after drying for use in dried arrangements. The entire plant is fully edible and completely resistant to common diseases.

Sedum Matrona, Loukykvět

Sedum spectabile

Showy stonecrop is one of the longest-living and hardiest perennials you can treat your garden to. It originally comes from the Far East, where it colonizes sunny and dry slopes. For successful cultivation, you simply need to find it a spot in direct sun with well-drained sandy soil. The 'Matrona' cultivar catches the eye at first glance with its fleshy, grayish-green leaves with a burgundy tinge and sturdy stems that do not break and need no support. We will deliver a mature potted seedling that you can easily transplant straight into the flowerbed after unpacking. We recommend planting five to seven plants per square meter; they will soon join into a solid stand around seventy centimeters tall. From August to October, it will then delight you with rich, flat inflorescences in an old rose color. It is an ideal choice for those looking for beauty without unnecessary effort. This stonecrop easily survives harsh winters with frosts dropping to minus twenty-eight degrees, and pests and diseases avoid it. The 'Matrona' variety differs from others in that it will reliably grow even in more nutritious soil, provided it is not waterlogged. In perennial compositions, it creates a beautiful contrast next to delicate ornamental grasses and other autumn flowers. During sunny days, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators constantly take turns over its flowers. You can boldly use the sturdy stems with pink umbels for cutting. They stay fresh in a vase for quite a long time and will bring a touch of the slowly ending summer into your home. It might surprise you that the leaves of this stonecrop are edible and can be used to garnish dishes. If you decide not to cut the plant back in the autumn, you will get a perfect structure in the flowerbed that will last all winter. Especially when the old flowers are covered in frost, they provide a breathtaking spectacle right until the spring months.

Lamb's ear Silver Carpet, Loukykvět

Stachys byzantina

Woolly hedgenettle has earned the folk names bunny or lamb's ears for its incredible softness. The 'Silver Carpet' cultivar lives up to its name, creating the densest silvery carpet you can imagine in a garden. Unlike the original botanical species, it hardly blooms at all, which is a great advantage in this case. The plant invests all its energy into forming dense, felted leaves that remain beautiful even in winter and form a compact ground-cover layer. It originally comes from the rocky and dry regions of Turkey and Iran, so it loves full sun and well-drained, sandy soil. In the garden, it perfectly serves as an unconventional and pleasant-to-touch border for flower beds or as a lawn replacement in dry areas where you don't want to worry about watering. Furthermore, its silvery color beautifully calms and unifies colorful plantings of perennials.

Eryngium yuccifolium, Loukykvět
For drying

Eryngium yuccifolium

Eryngium yuccifolium catches the eye at first glance with its exotic appearance, which resembles a desert yucca more than a classic perennial. It originates from the steppe regions and light forests of the eastern USA, where it has learned to manage water excellently. Thanks to this, it is an ideal choice for sunny and dry locations with well-drained, even poorer sandy soil. It forms a basal rosette of stiff, blue-green to gray-green leaves, from which tall stems topped with spherical inflorescences grow in summer. The flowers are up to 2.5 cm in diameter and their color transitions from silvery white to greenish. The plant is very hardy and does not suffer from pests or diseases. Its flowers are literally a magnet for pollinators, especially bees and butterflies, who find plenty of food on them. In the garden, it acts as a striking structural element that, thanks to its evergreen leaves and sturdy stems, decorates the bed even in the winter months. For florists, this eryngium is a valuable material. The sturdy stems are easy to arrange, and the spherical flowers look great in fresh summer bouquets as well as in dried decorations, where they hold their shape for a long time.
