Okrasný česnek ampeloprasum je naprosto nenáročná cibulovina, která si zamiluje především suchá a slunná místa ve vaší zahradě. Protože jde o poměrně vysokou rostlinu dosahující úctyhodné výšky 100 až 150 centimetrů, je velmi dobrá její kombinace s polštářovitými suchomilnými trvalkami. Ty přirozeně a elegantně zakryjí postupně žloutnoucí listy česneku ve spodní části, zatímco na pevných stoncích se budou tyčit nádherné vínové květy. Díky své obrovské nenáročnosti a faktu, že netrpí na žádné běžné choroby ani škůdce, je tento konkrétní druh naprosto ideální volbou i pro naprosté zahradnické začátečníky.
Samotná výsadba cibulí probíhá výhradně během podzimu. Tento termín je nezbytný proto, aby cibule stihly do příchodu zimy v půdě dostatečně zakořenit. Při sázení se řiďte těmito základními pravidly:
- Období výsadby: Ideálně od září do konce listopadu.
- Hloubka: Jamky by měly mít 15 až 20 centimetrů, cibule vkládejte vždy špičkou nahoru.
- Spon: Mezi rostlinami dodržujte rozestupy 20 až 30 centimetrů, což odpovídá zhruba 10 až 25 cibulím na jeden metr čtvereční. Pokud nebudete sázet ihned, uchovávejte cibule na suchém, chladném a dobře větraném místě. Zálivku vyžadují tyto okrasné česneky opravdu pouze minimální. Velmi dobře snáší letní sucha a naopak trvalé přemokření půdy by mohlo způsobit uhnití celé cibule.
Tato odolná trvalka je plně mrazuvzdorná až do úctyhodných -23 °C (zóna 6a), takže přes zimní období nepotřebuje vůbec žádnou speciální ochranu a cibule mohou bez obav zůstat trvale v zemi. Pro vytvoření krásného zimního efektu vám vřele doporučujeme nechat alespoň několik stonků odkvést a uschnout přímo v zahradě. Zasněžené siluety tmavých květů se postarají o mimořádně poutavou podívanou až do samotného jara. Zmínit musíme i to, že květy silně voní a od června do července neodolatelně přitahují včely, čmeláky i další důležité opylovače z širokého okolí. A pokud máte rádi kulinářské experimenty, můžete česnek využít i v kuchyni, protože celá rostlina včetně květů je jedlá.
