Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Blue Bird

Larkspurs belong to the most striking perennials that will reliably bring a vertical line and bright colors to the garden. The Benary’s Pacific Blue Bird cultivar stands out with rich blue flowers on stems up to one hundred and fifty centimeters tall. In nature, they seek out bright and nutrient-rich biotopes, so even in your garden, they will need full sun, generous watering, and humous loamy soil. You will receive from us a mature seedling in a pot, from which a strong plant will quickly grow after transplanting, fully frost-resistant down to minus thirty-four degrees. In June and subsequently in August and September, it forms flowers that act as a magnet for bees and other pollinators. It looks excellent in traditional flowerbeds alongside roses and peonies, where it will appreciate a spacing of sixty centimeters and a regular supply of fertilizer. It will also find its application in floristry; it stays fresh for seven days in a vase, just protect it from ripening fruit emitting ethylene. The flowers can be dried excellently for bouquets and retain their rich color beautifully. The plant requires more advanced care, as it is poisonous and in the spring you must carefully protect the young shoots from slugs, or guard it against unpleasant powdery mildew. Show full description

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Black Knight, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

The majestic larkspur Benary’s Pacific Black Knight will bring original beauty and a striking vertical structure to your garden. In the wild, the original species of larkspurs grow in lush meadows with nutritious soil. Therefore, in the garden, it will reliably appreciate full sun and sufficiently moist, humous loam. Although it is a perennial for somewhat more advanced growers, with the right approach, it will reward you richly and will survive even extreme winters with temperatures deep below the freezing point without worry. We will deliver a beautifully rooted seedling in a pot, ready for immediate planting in the flowerbed. Do not forget to give it enough space, ideally with spacings around sixty centimeters, and throughout the season, do not forget regular fertilizing. A more airy space will naturally protect the plant from powdery mildew. It works excellently in mixed borders with peonies and roses, providing them with a beautiful dark background. The Black Knight variety stands out with long stems growing up to one hundred and fifty centimeters, which are gradually adorned with deep dark purple flowers from June onwards. These literally attract bees from a wide surrounding area. When growing, keep in mind that it is poisonous and very tasty to slugs in early spring. The firm flower stalks are absolutely ideal for fresh bouquets, where they will stay fresh for about seven days. However, do not place the vase next to ripening fruit, to whose ethylene larkspur is sensitive and would wilt faster. If you want to preserve its beauty longer, try drying it. The dark flowers retain their pigment excellently and will enliven absolutely any dried arrangement.

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Summer Skies, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

The heavenly blue larkspur Benary’s Pacific Summer Skies brings a striking vertical element to the garden and plenty of food for bees. In the wild, larkspurs grow on nutrient-rich soils with plenty of moisture. Therefore, you should preferably prepare a sunny spot for it in heavier humus soil and ensure truly generous watering. The Summer Skies cultivar grows to a height of up to one and a half meters and forms beautiful blue inflorescences during June, August, and September. You will receive from us a grown seedling in a pot, fully ready for planting in the flower bed. This is a plant for slightly more advanced growers. It is good to protect it from spring invasions of slugs and in the hot summer keep an eye out for any possible occurrence of powdery mildew. The reward, however, will be perfect flowers that are made for cutting. They will stay fresh in a vase for a whole week, just keep them away from a fruit bowl due to their sensitivity to ethylene. Florists also like to use this variety in dried arrangements, because the typical blue color does not fade after drying. When handling, remember that the entire plant is poisonous. Despite its mild demands, however, thanks to its extreme frost resistance and stunning beauty, it will quickly become the star of any garden.

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Galahad, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Galahad is an unmissable classic and a true dominant feature among border perennials. Its wild ancestors originate from the mountain meadows and light forests of the Northern Hemisphere, so even in the garden, it will appreciate a sunny location and well-drained, yet nutrient-rich loamy and humous soil with plenty of moisture. You will receive a mature seedling in a pot from us, which just needs to be transplanted directly into the flowerbed, ideally at a spacing of sixty centimeters, so that it has enough clear space around it for growth. It belongs among plants for intermediate growers, because for its majestic growth to a height of one hundred to one hundred and fifty centimeters, it needs regular fertilizing and copious watering. It is also good to watch out for snails and slugs, which like to feast on its young leaves, and throughout the season to protect the plant from powdery mildew. Larkspur is fully frost-resistant and can handle temperatures dropping to minus thirty-four degrees without difficulty. The entire plant is poisonous, which is good to keep in mind when choosing its spot. You will often see it in the company of roses and peonies, where its pure white flowers form a perfect color contrast. It blooms first in June and, after being cut back in time, usually repeats blooming during August and September. The snow-white flowers reliably attract bees as well as other beneficial pollinators and are an excellent choice for cutting into vases. They will last about seven days in clean water, one just needs to pay attention to the proximity of ripening fruit, because the plant is very sensitive to the released ethylene and would fade faster. If you dry the flowers, they serve excellently for floristic purposes and will retain their shape and fresh color for a long time.

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Astolat, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Astolat is an unmissable dominant feature among border perennials and brings classic elegance to the garden. Its original species originate from temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, where they grow in moister mountain meadows. Therefore, even in our gardens, it will appreciate a location in full sun and deep, nutrient-rich loamy and humous soil with plenty of moisture. You will receive from us an already mature seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant to the chosen spot. Here it will quickly form a massive clump with deeply lobed green leaves. The Astolat cultivar stands out with firm stems up to a meter and a half tall, which from June carry rich inflorescences of large pink flowers with a contrasting center. During summer, these flowers reliably attract bees, bumblebees, and other pollinators. After the first blooming, we recommend cutting the plant back, which will encourage another wave of blooming at the end of summer in August and September. Growing larkspurs requires a bit more attention, so it is better suited for more advanced growers. For them to stand out well and reach their full height, they need to be given enough space; the optimal spacing is around sixty centimeters. Do not forget regular fertilizing and copious watering, because in dry soil they can suffer and be more susceptible to powdery mildew. In spring, it is also important to protect the sprouting shoots from slugs and snails. However, the care invested will pay off richly. We often see them in the company of roses and peonies, with which they form a perfect romantic composition. The entire plant is poisonous, which is good to consider when choosing a planting site. On the other hand, it will please you with its tremendous frost resistance; it can easily handle temperatures dropping down to minus thirty-four degrees. We can fully enjoy their beauty not only in flowerbeds but also in fresh bouquets. For cutting into a vase, choose stems at the time when the bottom flowers are opening. They will last approximately seven days in water, just be careful not to place the vase near ripening fruit. They are sensitive to ethylene, which causes rapid shedding of petals. You can also try drying them for floristic purposes. If you hang the inflorescences in a dark and airy place, the flowers will perfectly retain their rich pink color and serve as an interesting element for winter decorations.

Lady's mantle Irish Silk, Loukykvět

Alchemilla mollis

Alchemilla mollis, known as lady's mantle, is an indispensable perennial for anyone who wants to bring harmony and softness to the garden. Its home is the moister environments of mountain meadows and light forests, making it a very adaptable plant that will survive even severe frosts without problems in our climate. The 'Irish Silk' cultivar is prized for its vitality and abundant blooming, where clouds of tiny, yellow-green flowers float above clumps of gray-green leaves. Besides its ornamental function, lady's mantle also has practical uses. Thanks to its clumping growth and ability to quickly fill in, it is ideal for edging pathways or as an underplanting beneath taller shrubs and roses. Water droplets catch on its leaves, creating a magical spectacle in the garden. If you enjoy making bouquets, you will love lady's mantle as versatile filler greenery that matches almost anything. It will last beautiful for about ten days in a vase, and its inflorescences can also be easily dried without losing too much of their color or shape. Shoofly plant Blue, Loukykvět
Special offer

Catananche caerulea

Catananche caerulea, commonly known as Cupid's dart, is a charming plant that will win you over with its lightness and airiness. Its scientific name refers to ancient Greek legends, according to which it was used in love potions; today, however, you will appreciate it more for its undemanding nature and unique appearance. It is excellently suited for natural-style gardens, gravel beds, and drought-tolerant plantings, where it beautifully complements other perennials or ornamental grasses. It grows up to ninety centimeters tall and, despite its height, needs no support. The flowers have a lavender-blue color with a darker center and toothed petals at the ends. They bloom gradually from June to September. Cupid's dart loves drought and heat, but on the contrary, it cannot stand winter dampness, which harms it more than frost. If you provide it with a well-drained spot, it will survive temperatures down to -18 °C. It is a rewarding plant for beginner growers and experienced florists alike. Fresh flowers last a week in a vase, but they will bring you the most joy when dried. Harvest them fully open in dry weather and hang them upside down. They will keep their shape and remind you of summer all winter long.

Columbine Kristall, Loukykvět

The common columbine is a versatile perennial that will reliably inhabit both rural and modern flowerbeds. In the wild, it grows on the edges of forests and in light groves across all of Europe, which is why it thrives best in the garden in full sun to partial shade and ordinary loamy soil rich in humus. Its main charm lies in its unusually shaped flowers, but it is also valuable for its very early sprouting green leaves, which awaken the garden after winter. You will receive a beautifully grown seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant to your chosen spot. Although the plant is poisonous, it represents a huge asset for gardeners. Even complete beginners can manage growing it, pests avoid it, and it easily survives severe frosts dropping to minus thirty-four degrees. During May and June, delicate flowers bloom on sturdy, sixty to eighty-centimeter-tall stems, bringing typical airiness and lightness to the planting. The 'Kristall' cultivar is a large-flowered variety that stands out with pure white flowers and prominent spurs. These act as a reliable magnet for bees, bumblebees, and other beneficial pollinators. Keep in mind that in a favorable location, columbine very willingly self-seeds, taking care of natural-looking wild stands. It works well in perennial beds and as an undergrowth beneath taller shrubs. If you like bringing a piece of the garden home, columbine certainly won't disappoint you. It is perfectly suited for cutting and will bring a novel structure to spring bouquets. Fresh flowers will bring you joy in a vase for about seven days. If you leave some of the flowers to finish blooming on the flowerbed, they will form interesting seed pods, which are highly popular among florists for creating various natural decorations and can also be dried well. Just watch out for the occasional occurrence of powdery mildew during the drier months, but otherwise, the plant needs almost no care.

Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding, Loukykvět

Papaver orientale

Oriental poppy Royal Wedding is an unmissable perennial that brings true elegance to the spring garden. It originally comes from the harsher conditions of the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on sunny rocky slopes and dry meadows. Because of this, it is exceptionally resilient, easily handling frosts down to minus forty degrees, and can do without complex care. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant to a sunny location with well-drained loamy soil. The cultivar Royal Wedding will reward you in May and June with huge bowl-shaped flowers with pure white petals, which hide a distinct dark burgundy spot in their center. Moreover, these enchanting flowers reliably attract pollinators from far and wide. It is typical for Oriental poppies that their strikingly fuzzy green leaves die back soon after flowering. The plant takes a break over the warmest summer to gather strength, and a smaller portion of the leaves often sprouts again only at the end of summer. Therefore, it is ideal to plant the poppy in the flower bed in close proximity to other perennials that sprout slightly later and naturally fill the empty space left by the resting poppy. It avoids diseases and needs no support, reaching a height of around sixty to eighty centimeters. Just watch out for field voles, which might develop a taste for its fleshy roots. Otherwise, it is a long-lived plant that even a complete beginner can handle without worries. Given that the plant is poisonous, it is naturally not intended for consumption. The giant white flowers are also a great attraction for lovers of cut flowers, although they require a little trick. Similar to other poppies, the stems need to be harvested exactly at the moment when the buds begin to color and slightly crack. Right after cutting, we sear the ends of the stems with a flame for about twenty seconds to prevent sap leakage, and then we put them into cold water. Thanks to this procedure, they will stay beautiful for about four days in a vase and add amazing lightness to bouquets. Although these delicate flowers are not suitable for drying, they simply have no competition in fresh spring bouquets.

Cultivation

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Mix seedlings are a true gem that will bring stunning height and elegance to your garden. For successful cultivation, choose a fully sunny and airy location. The soil must be loamy, humous, and truly rich in nutrients. Larkspur certainly does not belong among drought-loving plants, so it requires regular and thorough watering. When planting the seedlings, maintain a spacing of sixty centimeters, which corresponds to about two to three plants per square meter. This spacing is absolutely crucial so that the leaves can dry quickly after rain and morning dew. This will prevent the spread of powdery mildew, an unpleasant fungal disease that manifests as a white coating on the leaves.

Care during the season is based primarily on a few important steps:
• Fertilizing: Apply fertilizer right in March at the beginning of the growing season so that the stems can support the heavy flowers.
• Support: For tall stems growing up to one hundred and fifty centimeters, we recommend placing a support in time so that the summer wind does not break them.
• Pest protection: Especially in the spring, you must carefully monitor the newly emerging shoots against slugs and snails, for which they are a huge attraction.
• Pruning back: After the main flush of blooms in June, cut the plants back lightly just above the ground, water heavily, and fertilize again. Thanks to this, you will see another beautiful wave of flowers in August and September.

Although the larkspur is radiantly beautiful, remember that it is entirely poisonous, so handle it with care. However, you don't need to worry about the winter. The plant has tremendous frost resistance and can easily survive temperatures dropping to minus thirty-four degrees. Botanically speaking, it is a short-lived perennial, so when its vitality drops, we recommend simply digging up, dividing, and replanting older clumps in autumn or spring. If you are considering growing it in a container or a large planter box, choose a really large and heavy pot so that the tall plant doesn't tip over. In a container, it will also require much more frequent moisture checks and a more regular supply of nutrients than in open ground.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific King Arthur, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific King Arthur is an unmistakable classic and a true dominant feature among border perennials. The original larkspur species come from the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, where they grow in moist meadows and in the undergrowth of light forests. Therefore, even in your garden, it will appreciate a sunny spot and well-drained, humus-rich, and loamy soil with plenty of moisture. To get the most beautiful flowers, the plants need to be given enough space, about sixty centimeters apart, and regular fertilization. You will receive from us a grown seedling in a pot, which you just need to transplant into the flower bed. It stands out especially in the company of roses or peonies, with which it forms a proven and effective combination. The King Arthur variety will enchant you in June and subsequently in late summer with its massive inflorescences in rich tones of purple and blue. It grows to a height of one hundred to one hundred and fifty centimeters, and therefore it will become an unmissable vertical element of any planting. The abundant flowers reliably attract bees and other pollinators. Although larkspurs are a bit more demanding to care for, as slugs like to feast on them and in dense plantings they can occasionally suffer from powdery mildew, their beauty is definitely worth a little attention. Moreover, the entire plant is poisonous, which conversely protects it from other animals. It will survive the winter here without any problems, handling frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees. You will appreciate this magnificent perennial not only when looking at a blooming flower bed, but also at home on your table. Its sturdy stems are perfectly suited for cutting into summer bouquets. The fresh flower will bring you joy in a vase for approximately seven days. Just pay close attention not to place it near a bowl of ripening fruit, as it is very sensitive to released ethylene, which shortens its vase life. If you want to preserve the purple-blue beauty for a longer time, you can simply dry the long stems with flowers for floral purposes. Even after drying, they retain their rich color very well and perfectly liven up various long-lasting winter decorations and arrangements.

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Cameliard, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

The larkspur cultivar Benary’s Pacific Cameliard will bring vertical dynamics and bright blue color to your flowerbeds. The original botanical species of larkspurs originate from mountain valleys and moister grassy plains, from which stems their love for nutritious, well-drained, and moderately moist loamy soil. In a sunny location, it will reward you with rapid growth and strong stems that commonly grow to a height of one and a half meters. We will send you home a beautifully rooted seedling in a pot, ready for immediate planting. We recommend maintaining a spacing of sixty centimeters; the plants need freer space around them to ventilate well and not suffer from powdery mildew. Larkspurs belong among perennials that require a bit more attention, and therefore, they are appreciated more by advanced gardeners. During growth and blooming, they need to be watered regularly and occasionally fertilized so that they have the strength to form large inflorescences. In spring, it is necessary to protect the young green leaves from slugs and snails. The plant is fully frost-resistant and will survive winter with temperatures down to minus thirty-four degrees without any protection, but keep in mind that it is entirely poisonous. The blue flowers appear in June and, after a summer break, if you cut the plant back after the first blooming, again at the end of August and in September. During blooming, the larkspur is swarmed by bees and functions as a perfect dominant feature behind shorter perennials. You can use it for cutting into tall summer bouquets. It will stay beautiful in a vase for a whole week, you just must not place it near a bowl of fruit. Ethylene released from apples or bananas causes the flowers to drop. If you like creating dried arrangements, definitely dry the larkspur; its petals will reliably retain their deep blue shade throughout the winter.

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Mix, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

The dominant feature of every rustic flower bed and modern garden, that is exactly the larkspur Benary’s Pacific Mix. We typically know it from traditional plantings, where it usually grows next to shrub roses and peonies to add majestic height to the space. For successful growth, it needs full sun and nutritious loamy soil with plenty of moisture, as it is not a drought-tolerant plant. Once it takes root well, it grows to a height of one hundred to one hundred and fifty centimeters, so we recommend planting individual plants at a distance of sixty centimeters apart. You can support its vitality by regular fertilizing, thanks to which its stems will be firm and hold the weight of the flowers more easily. The Mix stands out with an exceptionally attractive color palette, and already in June you will see petals in shades of purple, blue, pink, and pure white. It is an absolute feast for the eyes as well as for bees and bumblebees, who will immediately discover the flower bed. The larkspur is ideal for intermediate growers, occasionally requiring attention due to susceptibility to powdery mildew, and in the spring you must carefully guard the freshly sprouting shoots against slugs and snails. However, it will make up for all the care with its immense winter hardiness, tolerating frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees. Even though it is radiantly beautiful, always remember its toxicity. It enjoys immense popularity among florists. You can cut the strong, tall stems for larger summer arrangements; they will keep their freshness for about seven days. Since it does not tolerate ethylene from fruit well, place the vase out of reach of ripening fruits. If you cut the flower in the bed promptly and lightly after the first bloom, it will willingly bloom for you again in August and September. It also directly lends itself to drying; its small flowers retain their bright, rich colors for a very long time and can beautifully enliven dried floral arrangements.

It is precisely this neutral color that can work wonders in a flower bed – it softens overly sharp contrasts between other flowers and beautifully unifies the entire composition. Moreover, it is a magnet for pollinators, and its young leaves are even edible, so it also finds use in a natural kitchen.

Woodland Sage Caradonna, Loukykvět

Salvia nemorosa

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. Russian Sage, Loukykvět

Perovskia atriplicifolia

Russian sage reliably brings a touch of sunny steppes into the garden and places almost no demands on care. These sparsely branched subshrubs originally come from harsh, rocky areas from Afghanistan to Tibet, where they grow on open sun-drenched plains. Thanks to its origin, it delights in full sun and poor, well-drained sandy soil with minimal moisture. You will receive from us a well-rooted seedling in a pot, which just needs to be transplanted straight to the chosen spot in the flower bed. Gaura Siskiyou Pink, Loukykvět
Special offer

Gaura lindheimeri

Gaura Siskiyou Pink is a charming perennial that brings lightness and airiness to the garden. Its original native area is in the warm regions of Texas and Louisiana, which is why it thrives in full sun and well-drained sandy soil. It grows in clumps and from June until the autumn frosts produces tiny raspberry-pink flowers that resemble fluttering butterflies. An interesting detail of this variety is the green leaves with a bronze tint and red spots. It is an absolutely undemanding plant, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and even beginners can handle its care. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply need to transplant directly into the flowerbed. Here it complements ornamental grasses perfectly and acts as an attraction for bees and bumblebees. Although it grows more as a short-lived perennial in our climate, in a suitable place it reliably self-seeds. Occasional pinching will encourage richer branching. Gaura is excellent for summer bouquets. We cut the stems for a vase as soon as the first two to three little flowers open.

Echinacea pallida, Loukykvět

Echinacea pallida

The pale coneflower is one of the exceptionally interesting prairie perennials of the North American continent. In its natural environment, it grows on open, sunny plains, which is why it thrives best in our gardens in full sun in drier, well-drained soil. You just need to transplant this grown seedling straight into the flower bed, where it will reliably take root. It does not need support, easily withstands severe frosts, and is avoided by common diseases and pests, making it ideal for beginner growers. During June and July, it will reward you with aromatic flowers with unusually narrow and drooping petals in light purple and pink tones. The prominent prickly centers are literally a magnet for bees and bumblebees, and the flowers themselves are surprisingly edible. The plant stands out especially in rustic plantings together with ornamental grasses. Gardeners and florists love it for its versatility. The fresh stems bring joy in a vase for about a week. Sea Holly, Loukykvět
For drying

Eryngium planum

Sea holly is an indispensable perennial for all lovers of naturally styled gardens. It earned its folk name - male fidelity - in times when it was used in herbal medicine as an aphrodisiac, and its roots were even candied as sweets in France and England. Today, however, you will appreciate it mainly for its low maintenance and unique appearance. Its home is on sunny hillsides and dry meadows, so even in our gardens, it will welcome well-drained, even poorer sandy soil and full sun. It produces upright, sturdy stems topped with blue-purple flowers with prickly bracts, which bring interesting structure and a silvery touch to the flowerbeds. It is literally a magnetic plant for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, who find a rich food source on it. Floristically, it is extremely valuable, because its flowers are perfectly suited for cutting as well as drying for winter decorations. If you decide not to harvest it, feel free to leave it in the flowerbed all winter. Its silhouette covered in hoarfrost creates a wonderful winter effect. Although it is a short-lived perennial, in a suitable location it reliably self-seeds, so you will enjoy its beauty for many years.
