Papaver orientale
Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Sazenice ostrožky Benary’s Pacific Mix představují opravdový klenot, který do vaší zahrady vnese ohromující výšku a eleganci. Pro úspěšné pěstování vyberte plně slunné a vzdušné stanoviště. Půda musí být hlinitá, humózní a na živiny opravdu bohatá. Ostrožka rozhodně nepatří mezi suchomilné rostliny, vyžaduje proto pravidelnou a vydatnou zálivku. Při výsadbě sazenic dodržujte spon šedesát centimetrů, což odpovídá zhruba dvěma až třem rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup je naprosto klíčový, aby listy po dešti a ranní rose mohly rychle oschnout. Zabráníte tak šíření padlí, což je nepříjemná houbová choroba projevující se bílým povlakem na listech.
Péče během sezóny se opírá především o několik důležitých kroků:
• Hnojení: Aplikujte hnojivo hned v březnu na začátku vegetace, aby stonky dokázaly unést těžké květy.
• Opora: K vysokým stonkům dorůstajícím až do sto padesáti centimetrů doporučujeme včas umístit oporu, aby je nezlomil letní vítr.
• Ochrana před škůdci: Zejména na jaře musíte pečlivě hlídat čerstvě rašící výhony před slimáky a plzáky, pro které jsou velkým lákadlem.
• Zpětný řez: Po hlavní vlně kvetení v červnu rostliny zlehka seřízněte kousek nad zemí, vydatně zalijte a znovu přihnojte. Díky tomu se v srpnu a září dočkáte další nádherné vlny květů.
Ačkoliv je ostrožka zářivě krásná, pamatujte na to, že je celá jedovatá, při manipulaci s ní proto dbejte opatrnosti. Obavy ale nemusíte mít ze zimy. Rostlina disponuje obrovskou mrazuvzdorností a bez problémů přežije teploty klesající až k minus třiceti čtyřem stupňům. Z botanického hlediska se jedná o krátkověkou trvalku, při poklesu vitality proto doporučujeme starší trsy na podzim nebo na jaře zkrátka vyrýt, rozdělit a znovu zasadit. Pokud zvažujete pěstování v nádobě nebo velkém truhlíku, zvolte opravdu velký a těžký květináč, aby se vysoká rostlina nepřevrátila. V nádobě bude také vyžadovat mnohem častější kontrolu vlhkosti a pravidelnější přísun živin než ve volné půdě.

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.
