Persicaria amplexicaulis

This species of knotweed originates from the Himalayas and China, where it grows in scrub and on mountain meadows along streams at high altitudes. It forms sturdy clumps of fresh green, pointed leaves. Above them, upright, narrow, candle-like inflorescences composed of individual tiny flowers appear from summer onwards. It is a very popular perennial, recently bred into many cultivars and used in Western Europe in larger park and garden landscaping. It excels with a long flowering period in late summer and good durability in a vase. It was voted Perennial of the Season 2023 by the Czech Perennials Association. The white variety Alba stands out particularly well against a darker background and has long-lasting flowers.

Persicaria amplexicaulis

Persicaria 'Lisan' is an indispensable perennial for anyone who wants to have a blooming garden even in the second half of summer and in autumn. This type of persicaria has its origins in the mountainous regions of the Himalayas, where it naturally inhabits moister meadows and forest edges. As a result, the plant is very hardy and vigorous even in the garden, loves nutritious, humous soils that retain moisture, and thrives in both sun and partial shade. In plantings, it is valued for its ability to quickly close the canopy and suppress weeds, while not suffering from diseases or pests. Its dense clumps of fresh green leaves form a perfect undergrowth under taller shrubs or trees and bring dynamics to the beds even when other summer perennials are already fading. The 'Lisan' cultivar stands out for its striking, crimson-red inflorescences in the shape of narrow spikes, which tower above the leaves from July until the first frosts in October. Compared to some other persicarias, it grows to a more compact height of between 50 and 75 centimeters and does not require support, as its stems are firm and upright. These candle-like flowers look very impressive in perennial plantings and are literally a magnet for bees and other pollinators. Persicaria 'Lisan' is also excellent for cutting into a vase, where its rich color and interesting structure will last for several days and perfectly complement autumn arrangements.

Persicaria amplexicaulis

Persicaria 'JS Caliente' will bring colorful energy to your perennial beds thanks to its deep crimson spikes. The original botanical species of these persicarias inhabit the moist mountain meadows of the Himalayas, which gives this bred variety exceptional hardiness and vigorous growth. It forms dense and upright clumps of fresh green leaves that reliably cover the soil and give weeds no chance. Unlike some of its relatives, it does not behave invasively and stays in its place, where it only gradually spreads in width. It is an ideal choice for beginners because it does not suffer from pests or diseases and perfectly handles even harsher frosts down to -28 degrees. It fully develops its beauty in the second half of summer and autumn, when it tirelessly blooms from July to October. The tiny flowers arranged in slender spikes look like burning candles and are literally a magnet for bees and other pollinators. In the garden, Persicaria 'JS Caliente' is best used in mixed beds in sun or partial shade, where it has plenty of moisture in humous soil. It combines perfectly with taller grasses or autumn asters. Furthermore, the sturdy stems growing to a height of around one meter are perfectly suited for cutting into a vase, where they will add dynamics and airiness to bouquets.

Persicaria amplexicaulis

Persicaria is the star of natural-style gardens and modern perennial plantings, to which it adds lightness and vertical structure. This robust Himalayan perennial is completely maintenance-free, does not suffer from diseases, and its excellent frost resistance makes it a sure bet for Czech gardens. It only requires sufficient moisture, for which it will reward you with a lush clump of deep green leaves growing up to one meter tall. The 'JS Calor' cultivar is a true gem thanks to its intensely colored, red-orange spikes that resemble small flames. These flower "brushes" appear gradually and for a very long time, ensuring a colorful effect until late autumn. In flower beds, the plant looks wonderful in the company of ornamental grasses or late asters, with which it creates an impressive contrast. The flowers can also be used in a vase, where they look very decorative.
