Oregano

Ornamental oregano brings a piece of the sunny Mediterranean to summer flowerbeds. Unlike the classic kitchen herb, these perennials stand out primarily for their unconventional inflorescences and interesting texture, which naturally enliven any planting. Yet, they retain their typical scent, which attracts plenty of bees and butterflies to the garden. Their native species grow on rocky and dry slopes in southern Europe. Because of this, oregano is naturally accustomed to modest conditions and handles summer heat well. Therefore, it thrives best in a spot with direct sun and poorer, but well-draining, soil. It tolerates drought excellently, making it perfect for rock gardens, dry walls, or sunny gravel beds, where it grows even with minimal care.
