It forms lower compact cushions growing to a height of fifteen to twenty-five centimeters, from which cascades of tiny green leaves trail in the summer. During July to September, striking pink flowers appear, hidden in bract-like cones resembling hops. The whole plant is also strongly aromatic, fully edible, and its spicy scent irresistibly attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
In the garden, this undemanding plant will find use mainly in rockeries, on dry walls, or on the edges of mixed steppe beds, where it beautifully complements lower drought-tolerant grasses. Sazenice okrasného oregana Amethyst Falls je naprosto ideální volbou pro pěstitele, kteří hledají nenáročnou, ale vizuálně přitažlivou trvalku. Velmi žádané je pěstování v nádobách a truhlících, kde naplno vynikne její převislý kaskádovitý charakter. Pro úspěšné pěstování v květináči dodržujte tyto zásady:
- Na dno nádoby vytvořte silnou drenážní vrstvu ze štěrku.
- Použijte chudou, dobře propustnou zeminu s velkým podílem písku.
- Vyberte nádobu s velkými odtokovými otvory proti přemokření. Naprosto stejné podmínky rostlina vyžaduje i při výsadbě na zahradě. Nejlépe se jí daří na horkém a slunném stanovišti ve skalce, kde zemina rychle vysychá a nezadržuje nebezpečnou zimní vláhu.
Při výsadbě do volné půdy doporučujeme zachovat spon zhruba 30 centimetrů, aby měl vzduch prostor volně cirkulovat a nevznikalo vlhké mikroklima. Oregano je z hlediska péče prakticky bezúdržbové. Nevyžaduje přihnojování a zálivku omezte na minimum, protože nadbytek vody dokáže tuto suchomilnou rostlinu zahubit. Velkou radost vám udělá fakt, že se jedná o mimořádně odolný druh, který je zcela bez chorob a bez škůdců. Místo boje s neduhy se můžete naplno těšit ze silně kořenité vůně plně jedlých listů. Od července do září pak rostlinu zdobí růžové květy fungující jako magnet na včely, motýly a opylovače.
Aby si oregano udrželo kompaktní tvar o výšce 15 až 25 centimetrů, doporučuje se v létě odstraňovat odkvetlé nebo přerostlé výhony. Tyto stonky se výborně hodí do čerstvých vazeb a po usušení si perfektně zachovají tvar i růžovou barvu do zimních dekorací. Zpětný zmlazovací řez celé rostliny nechte až na předjaří, podpoříte tak jarní rašení. Co se týče přezimování, trvalka spolehlivě snese mrazy až do úctyhodných -23 °C. Pokud je vysazena v propustné půdě, nepotřebuje na zimu žádnou speciální ochranu. Rostliny pěstované v nádobách stačí pouze přesunout na místo chráněné před deštěm a sněhem.
