Thyme Compactus

Common thyme is an indispensable herb and a small perennial that will scent any sun-drenched garden. Its original home is the sunny Mediterranean, where it grows on dry, rocky hillsides. Therefore, it will also grow best in your garden in full sun and well-drained, rather sandy soil. Once planted, it becomes a hardy plant that can even withstand our frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees. In flower beds, it acts as a ground cover and reliably complements drought-tolerant plantings. During June and July, it transforms into a flood of tiny lilac-purple flowers that act as a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It is a completely undemanding plant suitable for beginners, which does not suffer from diseases or pests. You will receive a beautifully grown seedling in a pot from us, which you can simply transplant right away. The 'Compactus' variety is characterized by its dense growth, reaching a height of only ten to twenty centimeters. It impresses with its light purple flowers and very tiny, deep green leaves with an extraordinarily intense fragrance. The entire plant is edible and has a wide range of uses in the kitchen. It responds very well to pruning, so you can easily shape it into a firm mound. You can dry the cut aromatic sprigs to stock up, or use them fresh. Show full description

Cultivation

Vaše nová sazenice tymiánu odrůdy Compactus k vám dorazí krásně prokořeněná a připravená k okamžité výsadbě.
Tímto krokem rostlinu vytvarujete do úhledného a pevného bochánku, čímž zároveň podpoříte bohaté rašení nových lístků. Během zkracování ale dávejte velký pozor, abyste nezasáhli příliš hluboko do starého dřeva, ze kterého by tymián už hůře obrážel. Odstřižené aromatické větvičky si můžete i nasušit do zásoby.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.

The original natural species of thyme comes from the hot and dry regions around the Mediterranean Sea, where it naturally grows on sun-drenched rocky hillsides. Thanks to its steppe origin, it loves warm full sun and well-draining sandy soil, in which it will thrive best of all here. In the garden, thyme acts as a huge attraction for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, especially during June and July, when it blooms abundantly. The White cultivar differs from common thyme by a flood of tiny, pure white flowers, which form a gorgeous contrast to the tiny green aromatic leaves. It forms low compact bushes twenty to thirty centimeters high and is very well shaped by regular trimming. It is an absolutely undemanding perennial ideal even for complete beginners, because it does not suffer from diseases or pests and manages our winters with frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees without major problems. Although thyme is primarily applied in the kitchen as an edible and strongly smelling herb, it is also perfectly suited for drying, whether as a supply of homemade spice for the winter, or as a tiny detail in dried arrangements and wreaths. After drying, it retains its original shape and a very typical and pleasant spicy scent for a very long time.
