Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Tato jedlá trvalka miluje plné slunce a doslova si libuje na horkých a suchých místech. Půda by měla být chudší, vysoce propustná a spíše písčitá. Pokud ji budete sázet na záhon, umístěte jednotlivé rostliny zhruba 25 centimetrů od sebe. Správný spon je důležitý pro to, aby se mezi kompaktními zelenými keříky nedržela vlhkost a vzduch mohl volně proudit. Tymián velmi špatně snáší přemokření, takže pokud je vaše zahradní zemina spíše jílovitá a těžká, vytvořte vyvýšený záhon nebo do půdy štědře zapracujte hrubý písek. Zálivku vyžaduje pouze bezprostředně po výsadbě, dokud plně nezakoření, následně si již vodu dokáže najít sám.
Péče o tymián je natolik snadná, že z něj dělá ideální volbu i pro úplné začátečníky. Můžete se spolehnout na to, že se jedná o rostlinu zcela bez chorob a bez škůdců, takže vaše voňavá úroda bude vždy stoprocentně čistá. Během června a července se rostlina obalí množstvím růžových květů, které spolehlivě přilákají včely a další užitečné opylovače. Abyste předešli dřevnatění stonků odspodu a udrželi krásný tvar s výškou 20 až 30 cm, je nezbytný pravidelný řez. Nejlepší čas na ostříhání nastává těsně po odkvětu, kdy můžete výhony bez obav zkrátit. Tím podpoříte tvorbu nových aromatických lístků, které lze průběžně odstříhávat a využívat při vaření až do pozdního podzimu. Hnojit tuto bylinku prakticky nemusíte, přemíra živin jí spíše škodí.
Tymián se výborně hodí také pro pěstování v nádobách na balkónech, terasách nebo prosluněných okenních parapetech. Pro výsadbu do květináče zvolte substrát pro bylinky vylehčený pískem a na dno nezapomeňte nasypat vrstvu kamínků pro dokonalý odtok přebytečné vody. S příchodem zimy se nemusíte bát o to, že by rostlina zmrzla. Je plně mrazuvzdorná a bez potíží snese mrazy až -23.3 °C. Její největší slabinou je ovšem přílišné zimní vlhko. Rostliny na záhonu můžete na zimu mírně přikrýt chvojím, které propustí vzduch, ale zachytí nadměrný sníh. Nádoby je pak nejjistější přesunout na chráněné místo k vnější zdi domu, kam nepadá déšť a kde substrát přes zimu zůstane spíše sušší.
