They will look perfect in nostalgically styled flower beds; the white variant fits well even into naturalistic woodland gardens. These weaken and die back some time after flowering; all the plant's energy then concentrates in the roots, and at that moment, we can cut the above-ground part back completely. For the rest of the year, we won't even know the bleeding heart is in the garden. It will remind us of its charm again in the spring. Perfect vase life, at least 7 days. Harvest when the first 3–4 flowers open on the stem. The basic species has pink-white flowers. In spring, the sprouting shoots have a pink tinge.

Cultivation
Sazenice citronové máty je připravena k okamžité výsadbě. Vyberte jí místo na slunci nebo v polostínu, kde se naplno rozvine její silné citrónově-mentolové aroma. Nejlépe se jí bude dařit v humózní a hlinité půdě, která dokáže udržet přiměřenou vláhu. Jelikož se jedná o velmi vitální trvalku, která se ráda rozrůstá do okolí pomocí podzemních oddenků, doporučujeme při výsadbě do záhonu použít kořenové zábrany. Případně jí vyhraďte dostatek prostoru, ideální spon pro výsadbu je zhruba 40 cm od sebe, což odpovídá šesti rostlinám na metr čtvereční.
Během vegetační sezóny dbáme na pravidelnou zálivku, půda by měla být mírně vlhká, ale ne přemokřená. Zvláště v horkých letních dnech rostlina ocení vaši pozornost. Hnojení není u této nenáročné bylinky nutností, ale pokud na jaře přidáte do půdy trochu kvalitního kompostu, podpoříte tím tvorbu bohaté zelené hmoty. Citronová máta kvete od července do září drobnými fialovými kvítky, které přitahují včely a motýly. Pravidelným odštipováním vrcholků a odstraňováním odumřelých listů podpoříte košatý růst a zajistíte si neustálý přísun čerstvých lístků.
Zákazníci se často ptají, zda je možné mátu pěstovat v květináči nebo truhlíku. Odpověď zní rozhodně ano. Všechny druhy máty jsou robustní trvalky a pěstování v dostatečně velkých nádobách je skvělý způsob, jak mít jejich živelný růst pod kontrolou. Co se týče zdravotního stavu, máta je vysoce odolná a zcela bez chorob. Jediným nevítaným hostem může být občasný výskyt mandelinky mátové, kterou stačí včas mechanicky odstranit. Před zimou se nemusíte bát, rostlina je plně mrazuvzdorná až do -28 °C a bez problémů přezimuje. Na podzim nebo brzy na jaře pak stačí provést zpětný řez odumřelých stonků těsně nad zemí, aby rostlina nabrala sílu.

Mateřídouška Coccineus je drobná, ale nepřehlédnutelná trvalka, která do zahrady vnese nádhernou vůni a záplavu barev. Ve volné přírodě roste na slunných a suchých stráních, skalách a písčitých místech, proto i u vás na zahradě ocení podobné podmínky. Nejlépe se jí daří na plném slunci v dobře propustné a chudší písčité půdě. Je to naprosto nenáročná rostlina, kterou bez obav zvládnou i začátečníci. Nevyžaduje téměř žádnou zálivku, netrpí na choroby ani škůdce a bez problémů odolává i silným mrazům až do minus osmadvaceti stupňů. Tato plazivá rostlinka dorůstá výšky pouhých pět až deset centimetrů a rychle vytváří husté zelené polštáře. Od června do srpna se kultivar Coccineus halí do nápadných karmínově růžových květů, které intenzivně voní. Jde o obrovské lákadlo pro včely, čmeláky a motýly, kterým poskytuje bohatou pastvu.
