Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Pěstování verbeny citronové je vysloveně radost a díky její vysoké přirozené odolnosti vůči běžným chorobám i zahradním škůdcům se jedná o bezstarostnou volbu pro pěstitele začátečníky. Vaše nová sazenice bude naprosto nejspokojenější, pokud ji brzy po obdržení natrvalo umístíte do většího a prostorného květináče nebo truhlíku. Stanoviště by mělo být horké a na plném slunci. Právě pěstování v nádobách je u nás tou vůbec nejspolehlivější cestou, jak tuto vytrvalou bylinku úspěšně udržet při životě dlouhé roky. Zásadní je už samotná příprava před výsadbou – půda musí být krásně lehká, vzdušná a maximálně propustná. Na dno vaší pěstební nádoby proto vždy nasypte dostatečnou vrstvu drenáže, protože tato rostlina absolutně nesnáší přemokření a těžké, trvale mokré půdy.
V průběhu léta můžete osázený květináč s klidem umístit na slunnou terasu nebo rovnou do zahrady. Během července a srpna se objeví drobné bílé květy, kterými spolehlivě přiláká včely a další užitečné opylovače do vašeho okolí. Během slunečných dnů nezapomínejte na přiměřenou zálivku a pravidelné přihnojování v průběhu celé vegetační sezóny, aby měla rostlina dostatek živin. Pokud chcete udržet její atraktivní a kompaktní tvar a zároveň podpořit tvorbu nových mladých a voňavých výhonů, rozhodně se nebojte rostlinu pravidelně stříhat a tvarovat. Verbena totiž mimořádně dobře snáší i hlubší zpětný řez, po kterém se vždy ochotně a bohatě rozvětví. Získané odstřižené zelené větvičky navíc rovnou prakticky využijete ve své kuchyni pro přípravu osvěžujících nápojů.
Jakmile se na podzim začnou pomalu blížit první silnější mrazíky, nastává ten správný čas rostlinu bezpečně zazimovat. Ačkoliv verbena teoreticky snese krátkodobý pokles teplot až k minus dvanácti stupňům, středoevropskou zimu by venku na záhonu určitě nepřežila. Na zimu ji proto včas přeneste na chladné, ale dostatečně světlé místo s teplotou ideálně v rozmezí 5 a 10 °C. Pokud byste ji totiž zkoušeli přezimovat v příliš teplém a vytápěném obýváku, nezastavila by svůj růst a z nedostatku světla by se nehezky vytáhla. V tomto chladném zimovišti ji zalévejte už jen velmi opatrně a střídmě. Stačí hlídat, aby substrát v květináči zcela neproschl na troud, a na jaře ji po mrazících opět můžete s klidným svědomím přesunout ven na sluníčko.

Mateřídouška Coccineus je drobná, ale nepřehlédnutelná trvalka, která do zahrady vnese nádhernou vůni a záplavu barev. Ve volné přírodě roste na slunných a suchých stráních, skalách a písčitých místech, proto i u vás na zahradě ocení podobné podmínky. Nejlépe se jí daří na plném slunci v dobře propustné a chudší písčité půdě. Je to naprosto nenáročná rostlina, kterou bez obav zvládnou i začátečníci. Nevyžaduje téměř žádnou zálivku, netrpí na choroby ani škůdce a bez problémů odolává i silným mrazům až do minus osmadvaceti stupňů. Skvěle se hodí do skalek, suchých zídek, koryt nebo jako voňavá obruba slunných záhonů a chodníčků. Obdržíte od nás vzrostlou sazenici v květináči, kterou stačí jen přesadit rovnou na vybrané místo.
