Thyme Coccineus
Mateřídouška Coccineus je drobná, ale nepřehlédnutelná trvalka, která do zahrady vnese nádhernou vůni a záplavu barev. Ve volné přírodě roste na slunných a suchých stráních, skalách a písčitých místech, proto i u vás na zahradě ocení podobné podmínky. Nejlépe se jí daří na plném slunci v dobře propustné a chudší písčité půdě. Je to naprosto nenáročná rostlina, kterou bez obav zvládnou i začátečníci. Nevyžaduje téměř žádnou zálivku, netrpí na choroby ani škůdce a bez problémů odolává i silným mrazům až do minus osmadvaceti stupňů. Tato plazivá rostlinka dorůstá výšky pouhých pět až deset centimetrů a rychle vytváří husté zelené polštáře. Od června do srpna se kultivar Coccineus halí do nápadných karmínově růžových květů, které intenzivně voní. Jde o obrovské lákadlo pro včely, čmeláky a motýly, kterým poskytuje bohatou pastvu. Skvěle se hodí do skalek, suchých zídek, koryt nebo jako voňavá obruba slunných záhonů a chodníčků. Obdržíte od nás vzrostlou sazenici v květináči, kterou stačí jen přesadit rovnou na vybrané místo. Květy a aromatické lístky této mateřídoušky jsou navíc jedlé. Výborně poslouží v kuchyni při dochucování letních pokrmů, přípravě bylinkových čajů nebo jako jedlá dekorace na talíři. Ačkoli to pro svou malou výšku není typická rostlina k řezu do velkých váz, drobné voňavé snítky můžete přidat do malých letních kytiček nebo je usušit, protože si i po zaschnutí dlouho uchovávají své nezaměnitelné aroma.

Sazenici mateřídoušky vysazujte na plné slunce, protože právě tam se jí bude dařit nejlépe a vytvoří ty nejaromatičtější lístky. Půdu vyžaduje velmi dobře propustnou, chudší a písčitou. Těžké nebo trvale zamokřené jílovité zeminy této rostlině nesvědčí, hrozí v nich uhnívání kořenů. Vzhledem k tomu, že jde o plazivou trvalku dorůstající výšky pouhých pět až deset centimetrů, hodí se perfektně na okraje slunných záhonů, do suchých zídek nebo do skalek. Pokud máte k dispozici pouze běžnou zahradní zeminu, doporučujeme do výsadbové jamky přimíchat štěrk nebo hrubý písek, čímž zajistíte nezbytnou drenáž.
Samotná výsadba vzrostlé sazenice je jednoduchá a zvládne ji i naprostý začátečník. Rostliny sázejte ve sponu přibližně pětatřicet centimetrů od sebe, což odpovídá zhruba devíti kusům na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí, že se mateřídouška brzy propojí do souvislého zeleného polštáře, ale zároveň bude mít dostatek prostoru pro cirkulaci vzduchu. Zálivka je nutná pouze v prvních týdnech po přesazení, než rostlina spolehlivě zakoření. Jakmile se uchytí, stává se plně odolnou vůči suchu a další zalévání, stejně jako přihnojování, prakticky nevyžaduje. Navíc vás potěší, že netrpí na žádné běžné choroby a zcela se jí vyhýbají i škůdci.
Během sezóny, konkrétně od června do srpna, vás kultivar Coccineus okouzlí záplavou karmínově růžových květů, které intenzivně voní a přitahují včely i motýly. Aby si rostlina zachovala kompaktní tvar a bohatě kvetla i v dalších letech, je vhodné po odkvětu provést mírný zpětný řez, tedy zastřihnout odkvetlé výhony. Jelikož jsou květy i lístky jedlé, můžete si čerstvé snítky kdykoliv ustřihnout pro dochucení jídel. Mateřídouška se výborně hodí i pro pěstování v nádobách či truhlících na balkonech. Zde však dbejte na to, aby měl květináč odtokové otvory a na dně dostatečnou vrstvu drenáže. Na zimu nevyžaduje žádnou speciální ochranu, je totiž plně mrazuvzdorná až do minus osmadvaceti stupňů (zóna 5a), jen je potřeba chránit ji před zimním přemokřením.
