Calamint
An undemanding and modest perennial that blooms with a large number of tiny flowers. It blooms for a record-breaking length of time throughout late summer and autumn. It forms smaller, compact, airy bushes that release a minty-spicy scent. The thyme-like flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It will look good among roses as well as in naturalistic steppe beds, perhaps with lower grasses. This calamint is generally more vigorous. It differs from other calamints with felted leaves by its record flowering length, stiff and shiny leaves, and also a larger number of flowers that do not form seeds and are therefore maximally durable. Sometimes sold under the cultivar name 'Triumphator'.

The Czech cultivar 'Pálava' is valuable for its extra-long flowering time from July to October. Unlike other cultivars, its flowers are sterile and do not create any seedlings. Pěstování této okouzlující plazivé mateřídoušky zvládne bez jakýchkoliv předchozích zkušeností i úplný zahradnický začátečník. Vzhledem k tomu, že od nás obdržíte již dobře prokořeněnou a vitální sazenici, je její následné uchycení velmi rychlé a bezproblémové. Ze všeho nejdůležitější je vybrat pro ni vhodné stanoviště. Nejlépe uděláte, když jí na zahradě dopřejete horké a suché místo na přímém, plném slunci. Půda musí být především výborně propustná, lehká a na živiny spíše chudší. Ideální podmínky nabízí písčitá nebo kamenitá zemina. Pokud máte na pozemku těžkou a jílovitou půdu, určitě do ní před samotnou výsadbou přimíchejte větší množství písku a drobného štěrku pro odlehčení. Sazenice sázejte na pečlivou vzdálenost pětadvaceti centimetrů od sebe. Tento spon zaručí, že se rostliny nebudou zpočátku tísnit a brzy se spojí do hustého polštáře. Zákazníci se nás velmi často ptají, zda je možné tuto aromatickou mateřídoušku úspěšně pěstovat také v květináči nebo v truhlíku na okně. Odpověď zní jednoznačně ano a je to dokonce velmi oblíbený způsob pěstování. V nádobách na slunném balkonu či terase rostlina prospívá naprosto skvěle. Je ovšem naprosto nezbytné zajistit dokonalý odtok přebytečné vody. Na dno pěstební nádoby vždy nasypte dostatečnou vrstvu keramzitu a použijte kvalitní lehký substrát smíchaný s pískem. Co se týče běžné letní zálivky, u této suchomilné bylinky rozhodně platí oblíbené pravidlo, že méně znamená více. Ve volné půdě si rostlina většinou bez potíží vystačí s přirozenými srážkami. V nádobě ji pak zalévejte vždy až v momentě, kdy povrch substrátu v květináči úplně proschne. Žádné pravidelné přihnojování navíc nepotřebuje a nevyžaduje. Údržba během pěstební sezóny vám nezabere téměř žádný čas a péče je skutečně minimální. V červnu a červenci se rostlina promění v růžový koberec květů, který funguje jako přirozený magnet na včely i motýly a nádherně oživí celý prostor. Zhruba na konci léta, když rostlina úplně odkvete, doporučujeme provést lehký zpětný řez. Zastřižení zamezí nevzhlednému vyholování středových částí a výrazně podpoří celkovou vitalitu keříku pro další sezónu. S blížícím se podzimem a zimou nemusíte mít o tuto trvalku strach, spolehlivě totiž zvládá i silné mrazy, jelikož její mrazuvzdornost dosahuje až mínus třiadvaceti stupňů. Jediným vážným nepřítelem pro ni může být vytrvalé zimní přemokření. Obrovskou výhodou pro každého pěstitele je také skutečnost, že netrpí naprosto žádnými chorobami a je zcela bez škůdců. Její aromatické a jedlé zelené lístky tak máte k dispozici zcela čisté.

Mateřídouška Coccineus je drobná, ale nepřehlédnutelná trvalka, která do zahrady vnese nádhernou vůni a záplavu barev.
