Thyme Prostrate

Phlomis is a valuable structural perennial originating from the Greek islands and Turkey. It's also known as Jerusalem sage. In plantings, it's used as a groundcover and can even be successfully grown under trees. Both the flowers and the stems with their impressive fruits are suitable for cutting. If left untrimmed in autumn, they will adorn beds throughout winter, as will the dense carpet of leaves. Phlomis is also attractive to pollinators.

Perennial flax is a beautiful, delicate addition to any dry garden bed. It naturally grows on warm, grassy slopes. In the garden, it will look good on a sunny rockery, in a gravel bed, or in the company of drought-tolerant herbs. The basic species has sky-blue flowers. The delicate stems and leaves, which react to the slightest movement of the wind, also have ornamental value.

A valuable garden and medicinal perennial, native to North America. It blooms in summer with dark purplish-pink flowers. The spiky flower cones are an irresistible magnet for butterflies. They last 7–10 days in a vase. After the petals are picked, the stems with the central cones can be dried or used in fresh bouquets as an interesting element. Magnus has striking deep pink flowers with an orange-brown center.

An undemanding and modest perennial that blooms with a large number of small flowers. It flowers for a record long time throughout late summer and autumn. It forms smaller, compact, airy bushes that emit a minty, spicy fragrance. The thyme-like flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It will look good among roses and in naturalistic steppe beds, perhaps with lower grasses. This Marjoram is generally taller. Unlike other Marjorams with felted leaves, it stands out for its record-breaking flowering duration, stiff and shiny leaves, and also a larger number of flowers that do not form seeds and are therefore maximally durable. It is sometimes sold under the cultivar name 'Triumphator'.

Gaura is a clump-forming perennial native to Texas and Louisiana. Here, it tends to behave more like a short-lived perennial. It combines beautifully with grasses, adding lightness and airiness to flower beds. It's an excellent food source for insects. Tiny, butterfly-like flowers bloom tirelessly from June until the first frosts. For bouquets, harvest as soon as the first two or three flowers open on the stem. Pure white-flowering Cool Breeze has no hint of pink like other varieties. The flowers have green-white stamens, and the buds are also green-white. It grows more compactly than other Gaura.

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for naturalistic gardens, and smaller varieties even for window boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, caused by the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This is supposed to be present in the highest degree in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints are said not to attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta probably comes from the ancient Etruscan city of Nepet - Nepi in today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. Nepeta 'Senior' grows in compact clumps, reaching a height of 40 cm.

A tall medicinal perennial with decorative, finely divided leaves and a sweet taste and scent similar to anise. It does not form tubers. Its delicate, aromatic leaves give perennial beds an attractive veiled and smoky effect. Its flowers are a magnet for beneficial insects. It lasts 7–10 days in a vase. Mature umbels with seeds can be dried.

Artemisia with exclusive silvery foliage. A North American native species. Aromatic leaves. Lasts 5 to 7 days in a vase. Silver Queen has even more finely cut leaves than the basic species.

Agastache rugosa originates from regions of China and Japan. Its serrated leaves resemble nettle leaves but do not sting and, when crushed between fingers, emit a minty-anise scent. It is a stable, upright-growing plant. Hardy and robust, it successfully tolerates our winters. Interesting for cutting even after flowering. Lasts 7 days in a vase. Blue Fortune is a compact, long-flowering cultivar.

Rue is an ancient medicinal and magical plant native to Southern Europe. The tradition of its cultivation and use dates back to antiquity. Today, we grow it as an ornamental plant and a rich food source for bees. It creates an interesting and contrasting effect with its grey-green leaves when combined with drought-tolerant perennials and grasses.

Euphorbias are suitable for cultivation in sunny gravel beds. They form bushy, hemispherical clumps with delicate narrow grey-green leaves on slender stems. They bloom later than other euphorbias and then flower for a very long time, remaining vibrantly green until autumn.

This undemanding native grass stays green even in winter. In nature, it grows in meadows and forest clearings. It forms a neat clump of leaves, from which delicate thin stems with transparent clouds of flowers emerge. It adapts to more difficult conditions, such as dry shade or compacted soil, and can even handle waterlogging. The Czech cultivar Pálava is valued for its extra-long flowering period from July to October. Compared to other cultivars, its flowers are sterile and do not form any seedlings. It is said to be the most drought-resistant of all Deschampsia.
