Papaver orientale
Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Pokud hledáte originální a bezúdržbovou trvalku na slunná místa, pěstování šuškardy vás určitě nadchne. Jelikož dodáváme kvalitní a dobře prokořeněné sazenice v květináčích, odpadá vám starost s náročným klíčením a rostlinu můžete bez obav vysadit na záhon rovnou. Nejvíce jí vyhovuje horké slunné stanoviště a propustná, na humus bohatá zemina. Výborně snáší i sušší půdní podmínky, ale musíte si dát pozor na místa, kde se na podzim nebo na jaře drží voda. V přemokřené, těžké jílovité půdě by její hlíznaté kořeny mohly rychle uhnít. Rostliny sázejte s rozestupem pětadvacet centimetrů od sebe, což dělá zhruba devět až dvanáct kusů na metr čtvereční. V tomto sponu se nebudou vzájemně utlačovat a vytvoří hustý, ale vzdušný porost.
Péče o šuškardu v průběhu roku nevyžaduje žádné odborné znalosti, což z ní dělá ideální volbu pro začátečníky. Pro úspěšné pěstování se držte několika základních pravidel:
- Zálivka: Vodu dodávejte rostlině s rozumem, střední zálivka je naprosto ideální. Jakmile sazenice dobře zakoření, zvládne i delší období bez deště.
- Hnojení: Pro bohatou násadu květů můžete na jaře přidat trochu běžného zahradního kompostu, ale další přihnojování během léta už není potřeba.
- Opora a údržba: Květenství se otevírají neobvykle odshora dolů a pevné stonky nepotřebují žádnou oporu.
- Zdraví rostliny: Šuškarda je navíc velmi odolná, nepotýká se s žádnými nepříjemnými chorobami. Jediným nepřítelem v zahradě může být hraboš polní.
Zazimování této vytrvalé byliny je naprosto bezstarostné. Šuškarda vyniká extrémní mrazuvzdorností, hravě odolá teplotám klesajícím až k minus třiceti čtyřem stupňům Celsia. Na podzim se nemusíte trápit s žádným stříháním, suché stonky s odkvetlými klasy naopak na záhoně ponechte. Vytvářejí totiž velmi poutavý zimní efekt, zvlášť když je ojíněná rána ozdobí krystalky ledu. Jarní úklid pak spočívá jen v tom, že odumřelé nadzemní části seříznete blízko u země, a tím uvolníte cestu pro čerstvé zelené listy. Pokud si přejete pěstovat šuškardu v nádobě, i to je skvělá volba. Stačí zvolit větší květináč s drenážními otvory na dně a zajistit pravidelnější zálivku, jelikož substrát na slunném balkóně vysychá mnohem rychleji než volná půda v zahradě.

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.
