Nepeta faassenii

Catmint Alba

Catmint 'Alba' is an aromatic perennial whose botanical name probably refers to the ancient Etruscan city of Nepet, where it was once widely grown. Today, it is an indispensable part of sunny flower beds, where it thrives best in well-drained, sandy soil. It stands out for its extraordinary hardiness, easily handling harsh frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees, and does not suffer from diseases or pests. Even beginners can easily handle growing it. You will receive an already mature seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant straight into the garden, where it will form a vigorous clump of grayish-green leaves. In the garden, it functions as an ideal companion for roses as well as for natural-style plantings. During May, June, and again in September, it becomes covered in pure white flowers that attract bees and butterflies. This variety from the faassenii group grows to a height of fifty centimeters and has long, straight stems suitable for cutting. Show full description

Woodland Sage Ostfriesland, Loukykvět

Salvia nemorosa

This species of sage originates from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms abundantly flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In beds, it looks best in groups. It is an excellent food source for bees. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Ostfriesland blooms with a strikingly dark violet-blue color.

Catmint Walker’s Low, Loukykvět

Nepeta racemosa

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for naturalistic gardens, and lower species also for boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, caused by the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be present in the highest amount in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta likely comes from the name of the ancient Etruscan city Nepet - Nepi in the territory of today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. Nepeta racemosa naturally grows on dry meadows and rocky, stony slopes from the Caucasus to Central Asia. It has aromatic grey-green leaves and forms a tufted semi-spherical bush. Walker’s Low got its name after an Irish estate where it was bred in 1970. It has the most intense blue-violet flower coloration.

Lady's mantle Irish Silk, Loukykvět

Alchemilla mollis

Alchemilla mollis, known as lady's mantle, is an indispensable perennial for anyone who wants to bring harmony and softness to the garden. Its home is the moister environments of mountain meadows and light forests, making it a very adaptable plant that will survive even severe frosts without problems in our climate. The 'Irish Silk' cultivar is prized for its vitality and abundant blooming, where clouds of tiny, yellow-green flowers float above clumps of gray-green leaves. It is precisely this neutral color that can work wonders in a flower bed – it softens overly sharp contrasts between other flowers and beautifully unifies the entire composition. Besides its ornamental function, lady's mantle also has practical uses. Thanks to its clumping growth and ability to quickly fill in, it is ideal for edging pathways or as an underplanting beneath taller shrubs and roses. Water droplets catch on its leaves, creating a magical spectacle in the garden. If you enjoy making bouquets, you will love lady's mantle as versatile filler greenery that matches almost anything. It will last beautiful for about ten days in a vase, and its inflorescences can also be easily dried without losing too much of their color or shape. Moreover, it is a magnet for pollinators, and its young leaves are even edible, so it also finds use in a natural kitchen.

Sedum Matrona, Loukykvět

Sedum spectabile

Showy stonecrop is one of the longest-living and hardiest perennials you can treat your garden to. It originally comes from the Far East, where it colonizes sunny and dry slopes. For successful cultivation, you simply need to find it a spot in direct sun with well-drained sandy soil. The 'Matrona' cultivar catches the eye at first glance with its fleshy, grayish-green leaves with a burgundy tinge and sturdy stems that do not break and need no support. We will deliver a mature potted seedling that you can easily transplant straight into the flowerbed after unpacking. We recommend planting five to seven plants per square meter; they will soon join into a solid stand around seventy centimeters tall. From August to October, it will then delight you with rich, flat inflorescences in an old rose color. It is an ideal choice for those looking for beauty without unnecessary effort. This stonecrop easily survives harsh winters with frosts dropping to minus twenty-eight degrees, and pests and diseases avoid it. The 'Matrona' variety differs from others in that it will reliably grow even in more nutritious soil, provided it is not waterlogged. In perennial compositions, it creates a beautiful contrast next to delicate ornamental grasses and other autumn flowers. During sunny days, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators constantly take turns over its flowers. You can boldly use the sturdy stems with pink umbels for cutting. They stay fresh in a vase for quite a long time and will bring a touch of the slowly ending summer into your home. It might surprise you that the leaves of this stonecrop are edible and can be used to garnish dishes. If you decide not to cut the plant back in the autumn, you will get a perfect structure in the flowerbed that will last all winter. Especially when the old flowers are covered in frost, they provide a breathtaking spectacle right until the spring months.

Baby's Breath Snowflake, Loukykvět

Gypsophila paniculata

Baby's breath Snowflake is an absolute classic that should not be missing in any traditional or modern garden. This perennial plant originally comes from the sandy steppes and sunny slopes of southern Europe and Central Asia, which predestines it to love full sun and well-drained, even sandy soil. It has been grown in botanical gardens since the eighteenth century, and thanks to its low maintenance, it quickly found its way into private gardens as well. The Snowflake variety stands out with a flood of pure white, mostly double flowers that appear from June to August. It is an ideal plant for modern steppe plantings, where it perfectly complements ornamental grasses and drought-tolerant perennials, but it is also traditionally planted as a delicate companion to roses. For florists, baby's breath is indispensable. Bleeding Heart Alba, Loukykvět

Dicentra spectabilis Alba

The original home of bleeding hearts is Korea and China, where they grow in light deciduous forests. They are classic garden perennials. They will look perfect in nostalgically styled flower beds; the white variant fits well even into naturalistic woodland gardens. These weaken and die back some time after flowering; all the plant's energy then concentrates in the roots, and at that moment, we can cut the above-ground part back completely. For the rest of the year, we won't even know the bleeding heart is in the garden. It will remind us of its charm again in the spring. Perfect vase life, at least 7 days. Harvest when the first 3–4 flowers open on the stem. Alba has beautiful pure white flowers; the shoots sprouting in spring are light lime green.

Gaura, Loukykvět

Gaura lindheimeri

Gaura is a charming clump-forming perennial whose original homeland is the sunny plains of Texas and Louisiana. In the garden, it will appreciate exactly the conditions it is used to from nature, meaning full sun and well-drained, even poorer and sandy soil. A sturdy clump that grows to a height of around eighty centimeters will grow from the seedling you receive. It belongs among the very undemanding plants for beginners, which are completely avoided by diseases and pests. Although it behaves more like a short-lived perennial here, it willingly self-seeds in a suitable location. The tiny little flowers colored in pure white and light pink shades resemble small butterflies and bloom tirelessly from June all the way to October. It adds extraordinary lightness and airiness to flower beds, making it combine beautifully with ornamental grasses. During its long months of blooming, gaura is constantly surrounded by bees, for which it represents a rich food source. The flowers are perfectly suited for cutting into summer bouquets. We harvest the stems for vases as soon as the first two to three little flowers open on the stem. On the contrary, the plant is not suitable for drying.

Cultivation

Site selection and planting seedlings: This long-lived perennial loves hot and sunny locations. It will grow best in drier, well-draining to stony soils in full sun. It does not like excessive moisture, so avoid heavy and clay soils where it could rot in winter. Plant the seedlings at a spacing of approximately 35 centimeters apart, which corresponds to about eight to ten plants per square meter. Such generous space ensures optimal air circulation and allows the gray-green leaves to grow to their typical height of 40 to 50 centimeters.
Watering, fertilizing, and resilience: Once the plant settles well on the site, it becomes an undemanding drought-lover. It requires only minimal watering, mainly in the first weeks after planting. As for fertilizing, catmint is exceptionally modest. Ordinary soil will provide it with everything it needs, and added fertilizer would rather cause its long stems to flop over, which otherwise need no support at all. A huge advantage for every gardener is the total absence of pests and diseases. With this plant, you gain a reliable partner for the garden, with which you don't have to deal with any sprays against aphids or fungal infections. In short, it is a healthy and vigorous decoration for flowerbeds.
Pruning and winter care: The key to maintaining a compact shape and repeated blooming is the correct summer pruning. The plant is covered in pure white flowers during May and June. After it blooms, it is good to cut it back; it will resprout abundantly and bloom again at the beginning of autumn in September. This aromatic perennial from the faassenii group is extremely frost-resistant and absolutely reliably handles harsh winters with temperatures down to minus thirty-four degrees. It requires absolutely no covering, evergreen boughs, or other special protection. In autumn, simply leave the dead stems on the bed and in the spring cut them cleanly close to the ground.
Growing in containers: Many customers ask if this fragrant beauty is also suitable for pots. The answer is unequivocally yes! You can grow catmint with great success in more spacious planter boxes or containers on a terrace. It is crucial, however, to ensure perfect drainage of excess water. Always pour a sufficient drainage layer, such as expanded clay or coarse gravel, into the bottom of the pot. For planting, choose a permeable substrate mixed with sand. Apply watering in the container only when the top layer of soil is completely dry to the touch, and make sure that water never stands permanently in the saucer.

The information given is based on our experience, please use it as a guide only. Times may vary depending on the season, climate, location, sowing and transplanting dates and possibly also the conditions in the greenhouse/greenhouse. We always recommend testing how the plant performs in your conditions. Please do not take this as a guarantee.

Catmint Superba, Loukykvět

Nepeta racemosa

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for natural-style gardens, and lower species also for window boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, caused by the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be contained in the highest amount in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta probably comes from the name of the ancient Etruscan city Nepet - Nepi in the territory of today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. Nepeta racemosa grows naturally on dry meadows and rocky, stony slopes from the Caucasus to Central Asia. It has aromatic gray-green leaves and forms a tufted semi-circular bush. Superba is a great variety, valued for its energetic cushion-like growth and almost continuous flowering.

Eryngium planum

Sea holly is an indispensable perennial for all lovers of naturally styled gardens.
