Nepeta grandiflora
Catmint Dawn to Dusk
The original wild form of Nepeta grows freely in the regions of the Caucasus and Eastern Europe on meadows and pastures. It is a vigorously and upright growing clump-forming perennial. The flower color of Dawn to Dusk is softly light pink and combines perfectly with other colors. After the first wave of flowering and subsequent trimming, it blooms once more. It fits excellently into beds with roses as well as into wilder meadow compositions with grasses.

Kavyl Allgäu je spolehlivá okrasná tráva, která do zahrady vnese lehkost a neustálý pohyb. Jako původní druh roste na suchých slunných svazích střední Evropy. Díky svému původu je nesmírně odolný, miluje plné slunce a propustnou písčitou či hlinitou půdu. Výborně snáší sucho a pěstování hravě zvládne i začátečník. Do záhonu si jednoduše přesadíte naši vzrostlou sazenici a brzy se potěšíte hustými trsy zelených listů. Ty dorůstají 60 až 80 centimetrů a vyžadují kolem sebe prostor 70 centimetrů. Od června do září tvoří krémová a stříbrná květenství měnící se do béžových tónů. Kavyl krásně doplní suchomilné trvalky a na vhodném stanovišti se ochotně přesévá. Dlouhá stébla se výborně hodí k řezu do váz i k sušení do dekorací. Vyhýbají se mu choroby i škůdci a vydrží mrazy až -28 °C. Před zimou jej nestříhejte, protože ojíněná stébla vytváří nádherný zimní efekt.

Baptisia australis
Baptisia comes from North America, belongs to the legume family, and resembles lupine in appearance. Unlike lupine, however, it does not suffer from fungal diseases and does not taste as good to slugs. Besides the blue flowers, the large pods that adorn the plant long after flowering are interesting. North American Indians used Baptisia roots to disinfect wounds and lower fever, and leaves to dye fabrics. With Baptisia, patience is most important; it takes some time to fully establish and create a massive root system adapted to survive long periods of drought and fire. Then it is very long-lived. It was chosen as the Perennial of the Year for the 2019 season.

Cultivation
Pěstování šanty zvládne hravě každý začátečník, pokud jí hned na začátku dopřejete ty správné podmínky. Jakožto zdravou a vzrostlou sazenici ji můžete bez obav rovnou vysadit na trvalé místo. Vyberte jí horké slunné stanoviště nebo lehký polostín. Půda by měla být především propustná, klidně chudší, písčitá nebo hlinitá. Určitě se vyhněte místům, kde se drží voda. Při výsadbě na záhon dodržujte spon 50 centimetrů, tedy zhruba tři až čtyři rostliny na metr čtvereční. Takto vznikne krásně zapojený porost s dobrou cirkulací vzduchu. Tuto trvalku můžete s velkým úspěchem pěstovat také v nádobách a truhlících na balkonech. V takovém případě použijte klasický zahradnický substrát smíchaný s pískem pro lepší propustnost a nezapomeňte na odtokové otvory a pravidelnější zálivku.\n\nPéče o šantu v průběhu roku je opravdu minimální. Rostlina vyžaduje jen běžnou vláhu a bez potíží si dokáže poradit i s kratšími obdobími sucha. Hnojivům se raději vyhněte velkým obloukem. V příliš humózní a na živiny bohaté půdě totiž rostlina ztrácí svůj přirozeně kompaktní tvar, začíná rychle poléhat a museli byste jí zajišťovat nevzhlednou oporu. Šanta kvete krásně starorůžově od června do září. Velmi důležitým krokem v péči je letní řez. Poté, co první záplava květů odkvete, celou rostlinu radikálně sestřihněte. Nemusíte se toho vůbec bát. Zpětný řez rostlině neuvěřitelně prospěje, rychle vyžene nové čerstvé listy a brzy znovu a bohatě vykvete.\n\nVelkou výhodou této vytrvalé byliny je její absolutní odolnost vůči nepříznivým vlivům. Na záhoně vás nečekají žádné starosti se škůdci a bezpečně se jí vyhýbají i veškeré rostlinné choroby. Její zdravý a bujný růst vás bude těšit po celou sezónu, navíc svou výraznou vůní přiláká množství včel. Stejně bezproblémové je to s jejím přezimováním. Šanta je extrémně mrazuvzdorná a bez jakéhokoliv poškození snese kruté mrazy až do -34 °C. Na zimu ji proto nemusíte nijak přikrývat. Suché nadzemní části pouze nechte přes zimu stát, aby přirozeně chránily kořenový krček. Veškerou údržbu dokončíte až v předjaří, kdy všechny odumřelé stonky jednoduše sestřihnete nízko u země, čímž uvolníte místo pro nové rašící výhony.
