Sazenice mateřídoušky Silver Queen miluje horká a suchá místa na plném slunci. Pro úspěšné pěstování je klíčová správná volba stanoviště a půdy. Nejlépe se jí daří v dobře propustné a písčité půdě, kde se nedrží zbytečná vlhkost. Pokud máte na zahradě spíše těžkou půdu, doporučujeme do výsadbové jamky přimíchat štěrk nebo písek pro lepší odvodnění. Při výsadbě této sazenice do štěrkového záhonu dodržujte spon kolem pětadvaceti centimetrů, což znamená zhruba šestnáct rostlin na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu, což funguje jako přirozená prevence.
Během sezóny je péče o tuto trvalku velmi snadná a zvládnou ji i naprostí začátečníci. Dodržujte jen několik základních pravidel. Zálivka: Mateřídouška nevyžaduje téměř žádné zalévání, přirozené srážky jí většinou postačí. Hnojení: Není potřeba, chudá půda zvýrazňuje její citronovou vůni. Nádoby: Můžete ji bez problémů pěstovat v květináči nebo truhlíku. Nezapomeňte ale na kvalitní drenážní vrstvu na dně, aby kořeny nestály ve vodě. V nádobách bude substrát vysychat rychleji, proto občasná mírná zálivka neuškodí, ale vždy nechte zeminu zcela proschnout.
Obrovskou výhodou této bylinky je její odolnost. Nemusíte se obávat žádných škůdců ani chorob, je přirozeně zdravá a vitální. Pro udržení kompaktního tvaru a bohatého kvetení je vhodné rostlinu po letním odkvětu mírně zastřihnout. Tím podpoříte růst nových výhonů, které se pyšní tmavě zelenými lístky s bílým okrajem. Mateřídouška je mrazuvzdorná až do minus osmnácti stupňů, takže na záhoně zimu přečká bez problémů. Co jí však může uškodit, je přílišné zimní vlhko. Chraňte ji proto před přemokřením, například lehkým přikrytím chvojím, které odpuzuje vodu.
