Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Jelikož od nás dostanete již krásně prokořeněnou sazenici v květináči, můžete se rovnou pustit do výsadby. Lobelka Queen Victoria miluje vodu a nejlépe se jí daří v bohatých, spíše vlhkých půdách na plném slunci nebo v polostínu. V horkém létě rozhodně ocení polední přistínění pod stromy, aby se její nádherné bronzové až vínové listy nespálily. Pro úspěšné pěstování zvolte humózní, hlinitou a dobře propustnou půdu. Sazenice sázejte na vzdálenost zhruba 50 centimetrů od sebe, což odpovídá zhruba čtyřem až šesti rostlinám na metr čtvereční. Dostatečný spon zajistí rostlinám prostor pro růst a zamezí zbytečnému stresu z nedostatku proudění vzduchu. Pamatujte také na to, že celá rostlina je jedovatá, proto vybírejte místo výsadby s ohledem na zvídavé domácí mazlíčky nebo malé děti.
Během sezóny je naprosto klíčová bohatá a pravidelná zálivka, tato vlhkomilná rostlina nesmí nikdy úplně vyschnout. Skvěle se tak hodí i na okraje zahradních jezírek nebo vodních toků. Velkou výhodou je, že lobelka netrpí na žádné běžné choroby, musíte si však dát velký pozor na slimáky a plzáky, pro které jsou její šťavnaté listy neodolatelným lákadlem. Pevné stonky dorůstají do výšky 80 až 100 centimetrů a obejdou se zcela bez opory. Od srpna do října vás rostlina odmění karmínově červenými květy, které fungují jako spolehlivý magnet pro včely a další opylovače. Květy jsou navíc fantastické k řezu do vázy, kde oživí váš interiér a vydrží dlouho svěží.
Ačkoliv jde o trvalku, je spíše krátkověká a naše zimy nemusí spolehlivě zvládat. Její mrazuvzdornost sahá pouze k -15 °C. Před příchodem mrazů proto vyžaduje opravdu pečlivou zimní přikrývku ze silné vrstvy mulče nebo chvojí. Pokud se rozhodnete pěstovat lobelku v nádobě nebo prostorném truhlíku, což je velmi oblíbená varianta pro ozdobení terasy, dbejte na to, aby měl květináč odtokový otvor. Zemina v nádobě vysychá mnohem rychleji, proto zalévejte v parných dnech klidně i denně. Květináč doporučujeme na zimu přenést do chladné, světlé a bezmrazé místnosti, čímž kořenům zajistíte bezpečné přezimování.

This species of sage originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms profusely flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In flower beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, due to the identical flowering time, it is planted as a companion to roses. However, it will look just as good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. The cultivar Caradonna stands out with a long flowering period and dark, almost black-purple stems with tiny purple flowers and dark purple bracts. If we cut it back after flowering, it will bloom again in late August and September.
