Jakmile vám naše vzrostlá sazenice dorazí, vyberte pro ni to nejteplejší a nejslunnější místo, které na zahradě nebo terase máte. Tymián má rád horká a suchá místa na plném slunci, kde se naplno rozvine jeho charakteristická kořenitá vůně. Půda by měla být ideálně velmi propustná a písčitá, případně s příměsí drobného štěrku. Pokud máte na zahradě spíše těžší a nepropustnou půdu, určitě do ní před výsadbou přimíchejte větší množství hrubého písku. Přílišné vlhko a těžká zemina jsou totiž to jediné, co této jinak velmi odolné bylince opravdu vadí.
