Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
The Oriental poppy originates from the Caucasus, Turkey, and Iran, where it grows on rocky slopes and dry meadows. It blooms with large bowl-shaped flowers on tall stems. Like all poppies, for use in bouquets, we harvest them as soon as the buds color up and "crack". Additionally, we briefly (for about 20 seconds) sear the ends of the stems with a flame and immediately place them in cold water. Then they last in a vase for 4 days. The strikingly hairy and large leaves die back shortly after flowering, and the plant must rest until spring to gather strength. A portion of the leaves sprouts again in late summer. Therefore, it is advisable to plant other perennials in close proximity that sprout later and can draw attention to themselves during the poppy's pause. Royal Wedding flowers have white petals with a dark burgundy spot in the center of the flower.

Pěstování mateřídoušky Caborn Wine and Roses je doslova radost a díky její úžasné nenáročnosti ho hravě zvládne i úplný začátečník. Jakmile vám naše vzrostlá sazenice dorazí, vyberte pro ni to nejteplejší a nejslunnější místo, které na zahradě nebo terase máte. Tymián má rád horká a suchá místa na plném slunci, kde se naplno rozvine jeho charakteristická kořenitá vůně. Půda by měla být ideálně velmi propustná a písčitá, případně s příměsí drobného štěrku. Pokud máte na zahradě spíše těžší a nepropustnou půdu, určitě do ní před výsadbou přimíchejte větší množství hrubého písku. Přílišné vlhko a těžká zemina jsou totiž to jediné, co této jinak velmi odolné bylince opravdu vadí.
Protože od nás obdržíte již krásně vzrostlou a zakořeněnou sazenici, můžete ji rovnou vysadit na vybrané trvalé stanoviště. Pro dosažení nádherného, souvislého voňavého koberce sázejte rostliny ve sponu pětadvaceti centimetrů, což odpovídá zhruba šestnácti kusům na metr čtvereční. Tento rozestup zajistí optimální prostor pro růst a dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu. S chorobami si ale hlavu lámat nemusíte, mateřídouška je totiž zcela bez chorob a spolehlivě se jí vyhýbají i všichni běžní škůdci. Po výsadbě rostlinu jen mírně zalijte. Jakmile dobře prokoření, zálivku omezte na naprosté minimum, běžné letní srážky jí budou bohatě stačit. Hnojení rovněž není nutné, v chudší půdě si totiž lépe zachovává své typické aroma.
Během června a července vás rostlina štědře odmění záplavou drobných, purpurově růžových květů, které spolehlivě přitahují včely, motýly a další užitečné opylovače. Abyste podpořili vitalitu trvalky a udrželi její krásný, kompaktní polštářovitý tvar do výšky deseti centimetrů, doporučujeme provést po odkvětu lehký zpětný řez. Zastřižením odkvetlých výhonů zabráníte nechtěnému dřevnatění stonků odspodu a rostlina se do podzimu krásně zahustí. Co se týče přezimování, tato mateřídouška je plně mrazuvzdorná a spolehlivě odolává silným mrazům až do minus třiadvaceti stupňů. Vadit mu může přílišné zimní vlhko. Pokud je tedy vysazena v dobře propustné půdě, nevyžaduje žádnou speciální zimní ochranu.
Zákazníci se nás velmi často ptají na možnost pěstovat tuto bylinku v omezeném prostoru. Hodí se dobře pro pěstování v nádobách, okrasných truhlících nebo balkónových korytech. Její nízký, poléhavý růst vytváří krásné převisy přes okraje květináče. Při výsadbě do nádoby je naprosto klíčové umístit na dno silnou drenážní vrstvu, například z keramzitu nebo hrubého štěrku, a ujistit se, že má květináč odtokové otvory. Jako substrát použijte lehkou zeminu s velkým podílem písku. Květináč umístěte na slunný balkon či terasu a pamatujte na to, že substrát by měl mezi jednotlivými zálivkami vždy důkladně proschnout.
