Sazenici thajské máty po obdržení jednoduše přesaďte přímo na venkovní záhon nebo do dostatečně velkého květináče. Pro úspěšné pěstování vyberte dobře chráněné slunné stanoviště nebo místo v příjemném a mírném polostínu. Tato aromatická bylina nejlépe prospívá v běžné hlinité a humózní půdě, která dokáže udržet stabilní a mírnou vlhkost. Protože jde o velmi vitální trvalku s přirozenou tendencí se rychle rozrůstat do okolí, důrazně doporučujeme na záhonu dodržet spon zhruba čtyřicet centimetrů. To odpovídá zhruba šesti rostlinám na jeden metr čtvereční. Pokud chcete mít její bujný růst plně pod kontrolou, je ideální použití zapuštěných kořenových zábran, nebo právě zmíněné pěstování v prostorném truhlíku či dekorativní nádobě na vaší terase.
Během letní sezóny vyžaduje tato exoticky vonící bylinka pravidelnou, ale rozhodně ne přehnanou zálivku. Půda by měla být ideálně stále mírně vlhká, ovšem nikoliv trvale přemokřená, aby citlivé kořeny nezačaly uhnívat. Při oblíbeném pěstování v nádobách proto nikdy nezapomeňte na dobrý odtok přebytečné vody a kvalitní drenážní vrstvu z kamínků na samotném dně. Pravidelné hnojení není v přirozeně bohaté humózní zemině vůbec nezbytné, ale občasné přidání zralého organického hnojiva nebo poctivého kompostu výrazně podpoří tvorbu jejích typicky tmavě zelených listů a silných načervenalých stonků. Běžným plísním a chorobám se thajská máta velmi úspěšně vyhýbá, takže se o její zdraví nemusíte nijak zvlášť bát. Pouze občas preventivně zkontrolujte listy, zda se na nich neobjevila mandelinka mátová, kterou je vůbec nejlepší včas a ekologicky ručně sesbírat.
Od horkého července až do konce září se můžete na zahradě těšit na drobné růžové a fialové květy, které dlouhodobě fungují jako obrovský magnet pro včely, motýly a další užitečné opylovače. Pokud chcete výrazně prodloužit sklizeň mladých a silně aromatických lístků pro vaši kuchyni, doporučujeme celou rostlinu pravidelně a nebojácně zastřihávat. Tím zároveň udržíte její úhledný a kompaktní tvar i ideální výšku kolem půl metru. Odstřižené čerstvé stonky se perfektně hodí k řezu a krásně provoní letní kytice ve váze. S příchodem tuhé zimy si s thajskou mátou nemusíte dělat vůbec těžkou hlavu. Je to vysoce a spolehlivě mrazuvzdorná trvalka, která bez jakýchkoliv problémů snese extrémní pokles zimních teplot až k minus osmadvaceti stupňům. Na podzim tak úplně stačí odumřelé nadzemní části jednoduše seříznout kousek nad zemí a bylinka na jaře opět spolehlivě obrazí plná zcela nové síly.
