Jahodová máta je vitální trvalka, kterou od nás obdržíte jako již krásně vzrostlou sazenici se silným kořenovým systémem, plně připravenou k okamžité výsadbě. Ideální čas pro přesazení na zahradu je na jaře, až pominou největší mrazy, nebo pak během časného podzimu. Vyberte jí vhodné stanoviště na přímém slunci či v mírném polostínu, kde plně rozvine své jedinečné aroma. Nejlépe se jí daří v humózní a hlinité půdě, která si dokáže dlouhodobě udržet stabilní vlhkost. Při výsadbě pečlivě dodržujte spon kolem 40 centimetrů (to vychází zhruba na šest rostlin na metr čtvereční), aby měly jednotlivé sazenice dostatek prostoru pro zdravý růst a přirozenou cirkulaci vzduchu. Máta je od přírody velmi bujná a ráda se rozpíná do okolí pomocí svých podzemních výběžků. Pokud ji chcete na záhonu bezpečně udržet na vyhrazeném místě, doporučujeme při výsadbě rovnou použít zapuštěné kořenové zábrany.
Zálivka by měla být pravidelná, půda nesmí dlouhodobě přeschnout, ale ani být trvale přemokřená. Během sezóny můžete rostlinu podpořit lehkým organickým hnojivem, i když to v přirozeně kvalitní půdě není nezbytně nutné. Pro zachování kompaktního tvaru a vitálního růstu je klíčový pravidelný řez. Pravidelným zaštipováním a sklízením lístků podpoříte houstnutí rostliny, která pak dorůstá do výšky 40 až 60 centimetrů. Od července až do konce září vás navíc potěší drobnými fialovými květy. Pokud odkvetlé výhony průběžně odstraníte, prodloužíte tak celkovou dobu kvetení a rostlina nevyčerpá svou energii zbytečnou tvorbou semen. Její květy jsou doslova magnetem pro včely, motýly a další opylovače.
Jednou z obrovských výhod této bylinky je její vysoká odolnost. Netrpí na žádné běžné choroby, díky čemuž je radost ji pěstovat, a to i pro úplné začátečníky. Jediným specifikem, na které je dobré dát pozor, je občasný výskyt drobného škůdce, kterým je mandelinka mátová. Tyto broučky stačí při prvním výskytu jednoduše ručně posbírat, abyste bezpečně ochránili aromatické lístky. Co se týče přezimování, nemusíte mít ty nejmenší obavy. Jahodová máta je plně mrazuvzdorná až do neuvěřitelných -28 °C (spadá do zóny 5a), takže středoevropskou zimu přečká v záhonu naprosto bez jakékoliv speciální ochrany. Na podzim pouze přirozeně zaschne a na jaře znovu silně obrazí z kořenů.
Díky svému bujnému růstu je tato máta naprosto ideální pro pěstování v nádobách a truhlících, což je často to vůbec nejpraktičtější řešení. Při pěstování v květináči zvolte dostatečně prostornou nádobu s odtokovými otvory a velmi kvalitní humózní substrát. Nezapomínejte na častější zálivku, protože půda v nádobách vysychá mnohem rychleji než ve volné zemi. Výhodou pěstování v květináči je nejen naprostá kontrola nad rozrůstáním, ale také fakt, že můžete mít tuto voňavou a plně jedlou krásku neustále po ruce přímo na terase či balkonu, rovnou připravenou k oživení letních nápojů.

Mateřídouška Coccineus je drobná, ale nepřehlédnutelná trvalka, která do zahrady vnese nádhernou vůni a záplavu barev.
