Origanum rotundifolia

Ornamental oregano Kent Beauty

Ornamental oregano Kent Beauty is an unmissable herb that brings Mediterranean elegance and a wonderful fragrance to gardens. Originally, this species comes from the sunny and rocky slopes of the eastern Mediterranean, where it naturally grows in dry and poor soils. It is an exceptionally undemanding perennial that reliably withstands frosts. It applies itself perfectly in rockeries, dry stone walls, or on the edges of well-drained steppe beds, where it brings lightness and delicate structure. During the summer, from July to September, it forms trailing cascades of striking leafy bracts, from which tiny pink flowers peek out. These flowers act as an irresistible lure for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Although the Kent Beauty variety is primarily grown for its exceptional appearance, its green leaves are fully edible and carry a typical spicy aroma. It looks gorgeous not only in the flower bed, but it is also excellent for drying. If you cut the whole stems in full bloom and hang them in a shady and airy place, they will retain their interesting shape and become an original element of floral arrangements. For successful growing, we will deliver a beautifully rooted seedling, which you simply plant in full sun at a distance of thirty centimeters from other plants. Show full description

Pennisetum alopecuroides

Fountain grasses originate from East Asia, where they grow in meadows and light forests. They form hemispherical clumps of narrow leaves which, like the flowers, color up in the autumn. They are suitable for the vase and for drying. The 'Hameln' cultivar is one of the most reliable bloomers in cooler regions. The inflorescences initially have a soft pink tinge, then change color to yellow-brown or reddish-brown.

Hyssopus officinalis

The Roseus hyssop is an aromatic subshrub whose structure and requirements strongly resemble the popular lavender. It originally comes from the sunny and dry regions of the Mediterranean and Asia Minor, so it thrives best in direct sun here as well. It favors well-drained, sandy, and even nutrient-poor soil, where it easily copes with a lack of moisture. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply transplant straight into the flower bed, where it will very soon form a neat, richly branched bush reaching a height of around fifty centimeters. It is an absolutely undemanding plant that is not bothered by diseases or pests, so its cultivation can be easily handled even by complete beginners. It comfortably withstands severe frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees Celsius. In the garden, hyssop finds wide application. It fits perfectly into steppe-character gravel beds and beautifully complements roses or lower ornamental grasses. During the summer until early autumn, the Roseus variety will delight you with a flood of tiny flowers in a delicate light pink shade. These flowers, as well as the narrow green leaves, emit a pleasant spicy fragrance and reliably act as a huge lure for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. Since all parts of the plant are edible, you can also use hyssop in the kitchen as a herb to flavor dishes or prepare a medicinal tea from it. You can also cut the long flowering stems for a vase, where they will add a fine texture and lightness to summer bouquets. Although the flowers are not suitable for drying for floral purposes, the plant will please you in the flower bed even out of season. The inflorescences form an interesting structure which, after the leaves fall and are covered by morning frost, creates a beautiful winter effect. Furthermore, if you provide hyssop with ideal conditions, it will reliably self-seed in its location and remain a solid part of your garden for many years.

Stipa tenuissima

Feather grass flowers capture attention in beds and bouquets with their lightness and delicacy. All feather grasses love full sun and dry, stony, well-drained soil. To look most natural in beds, it is good to plant them in loose groups of several pieces together with other drought-loving perennials and bulbs. Only then do their stems and inflorescences, set in motion by the slightest breath of wind, truly stand out. Stipa 'Ponny Tails' is a species native to the steppes of Mexico, Texas, and Patagonia. Airy, dense clumps of hair-like delicate leaves resemble horsehair. The leaves are green, turning up to straw-colored towards the flowers. In a suitable location, it also self-seeds.

Salvia hybrida

The Feathers series, which includes the Flamingo cultivar, represents a small breakthrough in sage breeding, primarily thanks to its unique, deeply cut leaves. Thus, this sage acts decoratively with its structure in flower beds even before the first buds appear. As the name Flamingo suggests, the flowers have a beautiful pink shade and bloom on the plant in large numbers throughout the summer. The original botanical species of sage come from dry and sunny steppe regions, and this garden beauty also retains a love for the sun and well-drained soils. It cannot stand waterlogging, but it handles summer droughts and poorer habitats excellently. In a garden composition, it stands out in group plantings on the front edge of perennial borders or in modern gravel beds. Its aromatic leaves and nectar-filled flowers attract beneficial insects, so the garden literally comes alive with it. If you cut back the spent inflorescences, you will promote the density of the clump, and the plant often reblooms, flowering again at the end of summer. Thanks to its resilience and frost hardiness down to -28 °C, it is a reliable component of Czech gardens. The flowers can also be used in a vase, where they form a delicate, romantic element.

Thymus citriodorus

Doone Valley creeping thyme is a fragrant ground-cover perennial that will enliven any sunny spot in the garden. It is a completely low-maintenance plant that even beginners can easily grow. It is disease-free, avoided by pests, and easily survives frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees. From the potted seedling you receive, it will quickly establish into a dense carpet after planting. This variety catches the eye immediately with its yellow-green variegated foliage and lemon scent. From June to July, the display is enhanced by pink flowers, which act as a reliable magnet for bees and other pollinators. It is perfectly suited for edging borders, dry stone walls, or softening pathway edges. Both flowers and leaves are excellent for drying and culinary use. A major bonus is its changing winter appearance, when low temperatures turn the entire plant into stunning dusty pink tones.

Phlox paniculata

Phlox, also known as garden phlox, is originally a perennial native to North America. It soon achieved great popularity in European gardens and has been systematically bred since the 19th century. It is a classic perennial for cutting into bouquets, where, in addition to colorful flowers, it also delights with a gentle fragrance. We harvest as soon as roughly half of the flowers in the inflorescence have bloomed; then it lasts up to 10 days in a vase. Despite efforts to breed the most resistant cultivars possible, it remains true that phlox reacts extremely sensitively to climate and soil conditions, so we pay careful attention to the correct choice of location. Nora Leight attracts attention with creamy variegated leaves, which complement the delicate pinkish-white flowers with a darker eye. Thanks to the light foliage, it can brighten up darker corners of the garden.

Cultivation

Pěstování okrasného oregana Kent Beauty zvládne bez problémů i úplný začátečník. Sazenice umisťujte do doporučeného sponu 30 centimetrů, což zajistí správné provzdušnění a umožní rostlinám vytvořit souvislý, 15 až 25 centimetrů vysoký porost.
Stačí smíchat běžný zahradnický substrát s drobným štěrkem v poměru 1:1 a vybrat nádobu s odtokovými otvory.
S blížícím se koncem sezóny a příchodem zimy není nutné tuto rostlinu nijak složitě zazimovávat. Díky své výborné mrazuvzdornosti do -23 °C snese spolehlivě i drsnější podmínky.

Origanum rotundifolia

Ornamental oregano 'Amethyst Falls' is a charming perennial that reliably catches the eye in sunny beds with its unconventional inflorescences. The original species of this oregano come from dry and rocky areas, which is why it thrives best in the garden in full sun in poor and well-drained soil. It forms lower compact cushions growing to a height of fifteen to twenty-five centimeters, from which cascades of tiny green leaves trail in the summer. During July to September, striking pink flowers appear, hidden in bract-like cones resembling hops. The whole plant is also strongly aromatic, fully edible, and its spicy scent irresistibly attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. In the garden, this undemanding plant will find use mainly in rockeries, on dry walls, or on the edges of mixed steppe beds, where it beautifully complements lower drought-tolerant grasses. It is also excellent for growing in pots, from which its rich inflorescences can elegantly trail down. Even complete beginners can easily handle its cultivation, because the oregano does not suffer from pests or diseases and withstands frosts down to minus twenty-three degrees without problems. Just transplant the seedling to a chosen sunny spot after delivery, maintain a spacing of about thirty centimeters, and it will soon reward you with vigorous growth. The 'Amethyst Falls' cultivar stands out for its elongated flower heads with striking pink and purple coloration, which does not fade in the sun. The flowering stems are also highly valued for floristic purposes. You can harvest them into smaller summer bouquets, where they stay fresh in a vase for several days, but their main advantage lies in the possibility of drying. After drying, the inflorescences perfectly retain their shape and color, making them a beautiful addition to winter arrangements and dry bindings.

Wild thyme, better known by its Latin name Thymus serpyllum, is a tiny aromatic perennial that intrinsically belongs to sunny summer days. Its original homeland is the dry, sandy, and sunny hillsides and rocky steppes across Europe. Therefore, it will thrive best in full sun in well-draining and rather poor soil. From the supplied seedling in a pot, a low and dense cushion will grow very quickly in your garden, reaching a height of barely five centimeters. It is an extremely resilient plant, effortlessly handling harsh frosts and not suffering from diseases or pests. The Albus cultivar stands out with tiny, pure white flowers that appear during July and August. These flowers, combined with tiny dark green leaves, create a beautiful compact carpet. Its delicate appearance makes it an ideal choice for planting between stepping stones, in paving joints, or on green roofs. In addition, it emits a typical spicy scent that reliably attracts bees. Given its height, it is not suitable for cutting into a vase, but you can dry the flowering stems.
