It is excellent pasture for bees. It lasts 7 days in a vase. 'Schwellenburg' is a very special variety with a richly branched inflorescence. The little flowers have purple bracts and a wine-colored calyx.

In our conditions, we most often grow this as an annual. Although it can handle temperatures down to -18 °C, the course of our winter with frequent temperature fluctuations does not suit it, and excess moisture in winter is also a problem. Therefore, overwintering in a bright, cool room is recommended. This is another reason for growing fountain grass in containers.
