Této zajímavé bylince vyberte co nejvíce horké a suché místo na plném slunci, kde se bude moci naplno rozvinout její specifická vůně s tóny majoránky a eukalyptu. Klíčem k dlouhodobému úspěchu je správná struktura půdy – tymián doslova vyžaduje chudou, písčitou a velmi dobře propustnou zeminu. Těžká a přemokřená půda by nevyhnutelně způsobila rychlé uhnívání kořenů. Sazenice sázejte na vzdálenost přibližně 25 centimetrů od sebe, což odpovídá zhruba 16 rostlinám na jeden metr čtvereční. Tento spon s jistotou zajistí kolem rostlin dostatečnou cirkulaci vzduchu, čímž spolehlivě předejdete zapaření listů v hustém třiceticentimetrovém trsu. Po přesazení na záhon vyžaduje tymián mírnou zálivku pouze do doby, než plně prokoření. Jakmile se na novém stanovišti usadí, stává se z něj silně suchomilná rostlina, která zvládne i delší období bez deště. S hnojením si nemusíte dělat vůbec žádné starosti. Vzhledem k jeho přirozenému původu v nehostinných podmínkách jižní Evropy rostlině přihnojování spíše škodí. V chudé zemině si udrží kompaktní tvar a mnohem intenzivnější aroma. Během sezóny vás potěší i fakt, že tento druh netrpí absolutně žádnými chorobami a přirozeně odpuzuje běžné zahradní škůdce. Jedinými pravidelnými návštěvníky tak budou včely a další užiteční opylovači, které v květnu a červnu spolehlivě přilákají drobné bílé bambulkovité květy. Aby si rostlina udržela pěkný a hustý tvar, doporučujeme po odkvětu provést mírný zpětný řez. Stačí jednoduše zastřihnout odkvetlé stonky, čímž podpoříte tvorbu nových výhonů a zabráníte dřevnatění středové části trsu. Ostříhané květy navíc můžete nasušit a využít je k provonění domova. Blížící se zima vyžaduje určitou přípravu, protože tento druh snese teploty klesající pouze pod -12 °C. V chladnějších oblastech nebo při silnějších mrazech je nezbytné rostlinu zakrýt, nejlépe lehkým chvojím. Zásadní je také ochrana před zimním vlhkem, které je pro tymián mnohem nebezpečnější než samotný mráz.Tymián Pompom se velmi dobře hodí pro pěstování v nádobách a truhlících na balkonech či slunných terasách. Pokud se pro tuto oblíbenou a velmi dekorativní variantu rozhodnete, je důležité dodržovat několik základních a snadných pravidel pro dosažení co nejlepších pěstitelských výsledků. Drenážní vrstva: Na dno každého květináče vždy umístěte hrubý štěrk nebo keramzit pro okamžitý odtok přebytečné dešťové i zálivkové vody. Substrát: Běžnou zahradní zeminu před výsadbou vždy velmi důkladně odlehčete velkým množstvím čistého písku. Zálivka: Rostlinu zalévejte s rozmyslem a vždy až v momentě, kdy je substrát v nádobě prokazatelně a zcela proschlý. Zimování: Nádobu před příchodem mrazů pečlivě obalte bublinkovou fólií a chytře ji umístěte pod stříšku mimo dosah padajícího sněhu a zimních dešťů.
