Aster novae-angliae

A classic perennial of Czech gardens, although originally from North America. In nature, it grows in thickets among taller plants and naturally loses leaves on the lower part of the stem very early. Its bred cultivars also retain this characteristic. Therefore, we combine it in beds with suitable perennials that cover the lower parts well. The whole plant is roughly hairy. It is a hardy and long-lived perennial and resists powdery mildew well. Barr's Pink belongs to the earlier flowering asters; the flowers are purple-pink with a yellow center. It lasts 7 to 10 days in a vase.

Aster divaricatus

The Beth Chatto variety brings the wild beauty of North American forests into Czech gardens. The White wood aster is at home in shady clearings and along the edges of forest stands, making it an ideal plant for more demanding shady and partially shaded areas. It excellently tolerates the competition of large tree roots, under which it forms rich and exceptionally airy clumps. We will deliver a strong seedling in a pot to you, so after transplanting it into well-draining soil, you immediately get a solid foundation for a new bed. The entire care is absolutely undemanding; you won't have to fight any pests or diseases, and this perennial will survive the winter without batting an eye. The main peculiarity of this variety are its very thin, sturdy, and distinctly reddish stems. In late summer, delicate white flower heads bloom on them, reliably attracting bees and butterflies to the garden. The flowers also serve excellently in a vase, where they stay fresh for a long time and add an unseen meadow look to any floral arrangement. Even after blooming, the clumps effortlessly hold a firm structure, creating an eye-catching winter spectacle in the garden bed.

Aster divaricatus

The Tradescant White wood aster is a charming North American perennial that grows wild in forest clearings and along forest edges. It is an absolutely ideal choice for problematic shady and partially shaded areas of your garden. It can easily handle growing even under tree canopies, where it strongly stands its ground against the competition of their roots. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you just need to transplant into loamy or sandy well-draining soil, and you can watch how it thrives. It forms dense clumps, but thanks to the thin wiry stems, it looks very delicate and airy. The Tradescant cultivar is characterized by dark stems and the undersides of the leaves, which forms a beautiful contrast with the fresh green upper side. It grows to a height of around thirty to fifty centimeters and is slightly shorter than the basic species. In August and September, it rewards you with a flood of tiny white flowers that reliably attract bees and other pollinators to the garden. It is an absolutely undemanding plant, does not suffer from diseases or pests, and withstands frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees without any problems. The flowers on the dark stems look great in summer bouquets and are suitable for cutting into a vase, while in the garden bed, they form an interesting structure even after blooming and bring a beautiful winter effect.

Aster dumosus

The aster 'Rosenwichtel' is a tiny perennial that will light up any flower bed in autumn. The original species of dwarf asters grow in the bright thickets of North America. In the garden, it will therefore appreciate a sunny location or partial shade and well-drained loamy soil with plenty of humus. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which just needs to be transplanted straight into the ground. The 'Rosenwichtel' variety stands out with its cushion-like growth, staying close to the ground and reaching a height of only fifteen to twenty centimeters. It will work wonderfully as an edging for flower beds. We recommend planting nine to twelve seedlings per square meter with a spacing of thirty to forty centimeters to create a dense green carpet. It does not need support and even a beginner can easily handle its cultivation. It effortlessly survives frosts down to minus thirty-four degrees. From August to October, it covers itself with light pink to pastel flowers. These attract bees and bumblebees, providing them with late food. The aster is not suitable for cutting or drying; its beauty stands out right outdoors.

Aster dumosus

Dwarf autumn asters must not be missing in any garden that wants to live and bloom until the first frosts. The Aster dumosus species has its original area of distribution on the American continent, where it inhabits slightly moist plains and the semi-shaded edges of deciduous groves. In your garden, you will make it happiest with a spot in the sun or partial shade with regular garden soil that is humous and sufficiently well-drained. You only need to avoid permanent drought; otherwise, it is an exceptionally undemanding and long-lived perennial. From our supplied grown seedling in a pot, a sturdy bush about forty centimeters tall will soon emerge after transplanting, which requires no support and playfully survives even very harsh winters down to minus thirty-four degrees. The 'Kristina' cultivar will win you over with a rich set of radiantly pure white flowers. These open in late summer and bloom persistently through all of September until October. It is exactly in this period that it acts literally like a magnet for bees and other pollinators looking for nectar. Thanks to its lower growth and deep green leaves, the 'Kristina' aster is a great choice for flower bed edges or undergrowth beneath taller shrubs. It works excellently in mixed plantings together with other autumn perennials.

Aster dumosus

The dwarf aster 'Apollo' is an absolute classic of autumn gardens and will reliably light up even the gloomiest day with its bright white flowers. The original species comes from the eastern part of North America, where it inhabits bright places with naturally moister and nutrient-rich soil. In the garden, you will make it happiest in full sun in well-drained and rather loamy soil, which you should not let dry out completely for a long time. You will receive a well-rooted seedling in a pot from us, ready for immediate planting in its permanent location. 'Apollo' is a very undemanding perennial that will reliably stay in its place for many years and easily survive frosts well below thirty degrees. Thanks to its lower growth of around thirty to forty centimeters, it beautifully holds a cushion-like shape and does not require tying up. In ornamental compositions, it forms a perfect edging for paths or a transition element to taller species. The pure white flowers bloom gradually from late summer through all of September until October. They are a huge magnet for beneficial insects; bees and bumblebees love to stop on them from morning to evening. If you like decorating your home with living flowers, the aster will definitely please you. Its stems with open flowers are perfectly suited for cutting into vases and bring joy for many days, but you will not use it for drying. For healthy growth and abundant flowering, we recommend maintaining a spacing of thirty to forty centimeters so that air can freely flow around the plants. This serves as great prevention against powdery mildew, while in spring it is good to guard the young shoots against slug invasions.

Aster amellus

Italian aster brings refreshing colors to the garden just when summer slowly hands over its reign to autumn. It comes from warm and sunny regions where it naturally grows in drier meadows, and therefore a sunny spot with normal loamy soil suits it best. It is absolutely ideal to grow even for novice gardeners; it requires no complicated care and reliably withstands severe frosts. You will receive a healthy seedling in a pot that can be easily planted into the flower bed. The clumps stand out with their sturdy structure and do without any support. The 'Dr. Otto Petschek' variety is popular for its abundant flowering that lasts from August to October. The pure blue-purple flowers with a touch of lavender stand out beautifully above the dark green foliage. It is an important food source for pollinators, so bees and butterflies will constantly appear on the flowers. A bonus of this long-lived plant is its use in floristry. The flowers are a fantastic choice for cutting into fresh bouquets, where they stay fresh for a long time, but you should rather not use them for drying.
