Physostegia virginiana

The obedient plant is native to the eastern regions of North America, where it is most often found on riverbanks and wet meadows. Therefore, in the garden, it appreciates humus-rich soil that doesn't dry out, and loves a sunny spot or partial shade. It forms upright and dense clumps that gradually spread into the surroundings via root runners, and can thus fill empty spaces in the flower bed over time. The inflorescences have the shape of a slender spike with four rows of tubular flowers and resemble well-known snapdragons in appearance. It is a rewarding perennial that does not suffer from pests or diseases here and is suitable even for beginner growers. The 'Vivid' variety is shorter and more compact than the original species, growing to a height of about 70 to 80 centimeters and standing out with its striking purple-pink color. It blooms abundantly from August to October, thereby extending the season of color in the garden. For cutting into a vase, harvest the stems the moment the first flowers in the spike open. They stay fresh in water for 10 to 14 days and gradually bloom in the vase. They perfectly complement dahlias, for example, and after blooming, the dry seed pods are also interesting and can be used in dried arrangements.

Physostegia virginiana

The obedient plant is native to the eastern regions of North America, where it naturally lines riverbanks and colonizes wet meadows. Thanks to its origin, it loves plenty of moisture and sun, or partial shade, where it forms upright and rich clumps. It gradually spreads by root runners, reliably filling empty spaces in the flower bed. Its flowers resemble snapdragons and are arranged in slender spikes with four rows of tubular blooms that attract bees and other pollinators. The 'Alba' cultivar boasts a pure white color that brings light and elegance to the autumn garden. It blooms from August to October, a time when many other perennials have already finished blooming. For florists, the obedient plant is an absolute treasure. We harvest it for bouquets as soon as the first flowers in the inflorescence open. It then gradually blooms in the vase and stays fresh for 10 to 14 days. It perfectly accompanies dahlias, for example. The faded seed spikes are also interesting and can be used in dried arrangements.

Physostegia virginiana

The obedient plant is native to the eastern regions of North America, where it can be found on riverbanks and wet meadows. While the original species can spread somewhat vigorously into the surroundings via root runners, the 'Miss Manners' cultivar lives up to its name and behaves very well in flower beds. It grows in compact and upright clumps that do not spread aggressively in width, making it perfectly suited even for smaller perennial plantings or tidy flower beds. From August to October, it will delight you with snow-white flowers that resemble snapdragons in shape and are arranged in slender spikes. The flowers are a magnet for pollinators, but they will also bring great joy at home in a vase. We harvest them when the first little flowers in the inflorescence open; they then continue to bloom gradually in water. In floral arrangements, they make a wonderful accompaniment for late summer dahlias and stay fresh for ten to fourteen days. If you don't manage to harvest the flowers fresh, don't despair, because the faded seed spikes have an interesting structure and can be excellently used in dried autumn and winter decorations. Additionally, the plant is very frost-hardy and does not suffer from pests.

Physostegia virginiana

Obedient plant is native to the wet meadows and riverbanks in the eastern regions of North America. Thanks to this origin, it handles heavier clay soils that retain moisture well perfectly in the garden. It forms upright and dense clumps that gradually spread into the surroundings using underground runners, so over time it will fill empty spots in the flowerbed. Its pure white flowers are arranged in slender spikes in four regular rows, and their shape may resemble Snapdragons. The Summer Snow cultivar is particularly valued for its bright coloration and early onset of flowering, thanks to which it enlivens the garden already in the second half of summer. This perennial is absolutely invaluable for florists and lovers of cut flowers. We harvest the stems the moment the first small flowers open on the spike. In a vase, the plant then continues to bloom and stays fresh for ten to fourteen days. In bouquets, it forms a beautiful vertical element and is a great companion for colorful Dahlias. Even after fading, the obedient plant has something to offer, because its sturdy stems with faded seed pods look interesting in dried arrangements. Moreover, it is a magnet for bees and bumblebees, who appreciate every blooming piece on their late-summer pasture.
