Perennial and Grass Collection with Bulbs and Seeds

Blue tones in the garden bed

Our perennial selection in blue. We have supplemented it with our favorite blue annual seeds and added blue-flowering spring bulbs. Ornamental grasses are also a must. Everything is ready to conjure up a blue mood in your garden. Just choose a sunny spot with good soil and access to water. When planning, calculate an average of six to seven perennial plants per m²; it always depends on the quality of the soil in your garden and your intentions. In nutritious and sufficiently moist soil, perennials will grow faster and initial spacing can be larger, while in poorer conditions, it is better to plant more densely. The time you can dedicate to garden maintenance will also be a deciding factor. Our collection is flexible, allowing you to creatively adapt it to your needs and garden. In the cart, you can easily adjust the number of plants or swap in suitable species and cultivars. For example, if you already grow some of the perennials in this collection and only need to fill in your flowerbed, you can simply keep your preferred perennials in the cart. During an autumn purchase, you can take advantage of available bulbs and order the complete collection, including spring bulbs and alliums, which will ensure your flowerbed has plenty of blooms in both spring and summer. Show full description

Sea Holly, Loukykvět
For drying

Eryngium planum

Sea holly is an indispensable perennial for all lovers of naturally styled gardens. It earned its folk name - male fidelity - in times when it was used in herbal medicine as an aphrodisiac, and its roots were even candied as sweets in France and England. Today, however, you will appreciate it mainly for its low maintenance and unique appearance. Its home is on sunny hillsides and dry meadows, so even in our gardens, it will welcome well-drained, even poorer sandy soil and full sun. It produces upright, sturdy stems topped with blue-purple flowers with prickly bracts, which bring interesting structure and a silvery touch to the flowerbeds. It is literally a magnetic plant for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, who find a rich food source on it. Floristically, it is extremely valuable, because its flowers are perfectly suited for cutting as well as drying for winter decorations. If you decide not to harvest it, feel free to leave it in the flowerbed all winter. Its silhouette covered in hoarfrost creates a wonderful winter effect. Although it is a short-lived perennial, in a suitable location it reliably self-seeds, so you will enjoy its beauty for many years.

Salvia Blauhügel, Loukykvět

Salvia nemorosa

This species of Salvia originally comes from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms richly flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, it is planted as a companion to roses due to the same flowering time. However, it will look equally good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It lasts 7 days in a vase. 'Blauhügel' blooms blue.

Hyssop, Loukykvět

Hyssopus officinalis

Hyssop is an aromatic subshrub that closely resembles the popular Lavender in its structure and use. Its original homeland is the sunny and rocky slopes of Southern Europe and the Mediterranean. For this reason, it will thrive best in your garden in direct sun and in well-drained, sandy, or loamy soil, where it can easily handle drier periods. It survives our winters without difficulty, being frost-hardy down to minus twenty-three degrees. An already grown seedling in a pot will arrive at your home, which you simply need to transplant directly into the flowerbed. There, it will quickly form a compact small bush reaching a height of around fifty centimeters. It fits perfectly into gravel beds of a steppe character and forms a beautiful undergrowth for roses. From July to September, it is covered in tiny blue-purple flowers, which act as a huge attraction for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It does not suffer from diseases or pests, so even complete beginners can easily handle it; moreover, it reliably self-seeds in a suitable place. The whole plant smells pleasant, and its edible leaves and flowers find use in the kitchen. It is also excellent for cutting into fresh summer bouquets.

Catmint Walker’s Low, Loukykvět

Nepeta racemosa

Catmints are ideal companions for roses, suitable for naturalistic gardens, and lower species also for boxes and pots. Some of them are an irresistible attraction for cats, caused by the hallucinogen nepetalactone. This should be present in the highest amount in the species Nepeta cataria. Conversely, lemon-scented catmints reportedly do not attract cats. The botanical name Nepeta likely comes from the name of the ancient Etruscan city Nepet - Nepi in the territory of today's Italian province of Viterbo, where the plant was once cultivated. Nepeta racemosa naturally grows on dry meadows and rocky, stony slopes from the Caucasus to Central Asia. It has aromatic grey-green leaves and forms a tufted semi-spherical bush. Walker’s Low got its name after an Irish estate where it was bred in 1970. It has the most intense blue-violet flower coloration.

Spanish Bluebell Blue, Loukykvět

Hyacinthoides hispanica

The Spanish Bluebell is a beautiful bulbous plant native to southwestern Europe, where it grows in light deciduous forests. Multiple leaves grow from the bulb, but only one flower stalk. The plant propagates well on its own in the right location via daughter bulbs and seeds, creating colonies. It blooms from May to June. The leaves die back soon after flowering. For the longest vase life, it is best to harvest them just before the florets open. Then they last up to 14 days in a vase.

Milky bellflower Prichard's Var., Loukykvět

Campanula lactiflora

Milky bellflower will bring the atmosphere of wild mountain meadows into your garden. Its original home is the regions of the Caucasus and western Asia, where it grows on the edges of sparse forests and in shrubberies. You will receive a grown seedling in a pot from us, which you simply need to transplant straight into a sunny spot with loamy soil. This bellflower is very undemanding and even beginners can easily handle its care, as it reliably withstands frosts down to minus twenty-eight degrees and is avoided by diseases and pests. In the flowerbed, it will form roughly ninety-centimeter-tall clumps with green leaves, for which it is a good idea to consider light support. It thrives excellently in the company of plants that will not compete with it too much with a vigorous root system. It therefore looks absolutely perfect as a companion for roses or hydrangeas. The Prichard's Var. cultivar stands out from June to August with a flood of blue to purple-blue flowers, whose color is much richer than that of the basic species. The long stems of this bellflower are practically destined for cutting into summer bouquets. In a vase, the fresh flowers will last to bring you joy for an amazing fourteen days.

Switchgrass Prairie Sky, Loukykvět

Panicum virgatum

A perennial grass native to North American prairies. Switchgrass is very adaptable and long-lived. It adds clear structure to flower beds and simultaneously functions as a softening element. This is especially true after veil-like flowers appear above the clumps of leaves. Prairie Sky is probably the bluest cultivar of perennial switchgrass. It is not as strictly built as Heavy Metal. Its clumps are looser, and it turns yellow in autumn.

Didiscus Lacy Blue, Loukykvět

Didiscus caerulea

Didiscus has a strange name, but it is a great beauty similar to Ammi or ornamental carrot. The flowers are disc-shaped with tiny florets. Didiscus finishes blooming faster, similar to Ammi or ornamental carrot, so we recommend succession sowing. It likes warmth, so it can be sown even in summer.

Larkspur QIS Light Blue, Loukykvět

Delphinium consolida

Larkspurs are spring beauties that nothing compares to. However, if you want to harvest them for cut flowers, you must be vigilant and harvest quickly before all the buds open. They finish blooming quickly, especially during the warm springs of recent years, so we sow several batches 14 days apart just to keep up with the harvest. Larkspur QIS White is a soft white that fits beautifully into wedding floristry. You harvest one stronger stem and 4-5 smaller side stems from a single plant.

Flax Sky Blue, Loukykvět

Linum usitatissimum

For drying, round capsules formed by flax after flowering are used. You need to catch the right time when they are mature and the stem below the capsule is firm. Do not wait too long, however, so you achieve a nice golden color after drying. Just hang them upside down in a dry and ventilated place, out of direct sunlight.

Larkspur Morpho Grand Blue, Loukykvět

Delphinium grandiflorum

Larkspur Morpho definitely doesn't look like just any ordinary Larkspur! The flowers are single and positioned on long stalks. It creates a much airier and lighter impression than we are used to with Larkspurs. At the same time, it works beautifully as a filler in bouquets, as the stems are branching with plenty of tiny blooms. Morpho Grand Blue is a shade of deep, vibrant blue, quite rare in flowers.

Larkspur Benary’s Pacific Blue Bird, Loukykvět

Delphinium hybrida

Larkspurs belong to the most striking perennials that will reliably bring a vertical line and bright colors to the garden. The Benary’s Pacific Blue Bird cultivar stands out with rich blue flowers on stems up to one hundred and fifty centimeters tall. In nature, they seek out bright and nutrient-rich biotopes, so even in your garden, they will need full sun, generous watering, and humous loamy soil. You will receive from us a mature seedling in a pot, from which a strong plant will quickly grow after transplanting, fully frost-resistant down to minus thirty-four degrees. In June and subsequently in August and September, it forms flowers that act as a magnet for bees and other pollinators. It looks excellent in traditional flowerbeds alongside roses and peonies, where it will appreciate a spacing of sixty centimeters and a regular supply of fertilizer. It will also find its application in floristry; it stays fresh for seven days in a vase, just protect it from ripening fruit emitting ethylene. The flowers can be dried excellently for bouquets and retain their rich color beautifully. The plant requires more advanced care, as it is poisonous and in the spring you must carefully protect the young shoots from slugs, or guard it against unpleasant powdery mildew.
