Cultivation
We will deliver the milky bellflower to you as an already nicely grown seedling, which you can plant straight into the flower bed after delivery. It will thrive best in a sunny location or in light partial shade. With plenty of water, it will easily tolerate a fully sunny spot; otherwise, it prefers a cooler and fresh place in partial shade. It requires loamy, well-drained soil rich in humus. When planting, keep a spacing of 45 to 60 centimeters, which corresponds to about three to five plants per square meter. This space is important so the plant can fully develop and air can circulate naturally between the leaves.
During the season, remember to provide regular but not excessive watering. For successful growth and rich blooming, follow these basic steps:
- Support and growth: Since the clumps grow to a height of 80 to 100 centimeters, provide the tall stems with light support. This will reliably prevent them from lodging during stronger wind or rain.
- Pruning and maintenance: After it finishes blooming, it is good to cut the plants back. This will promote the overall vitality of the perennial, keep the flower bed tidy, and prevent excessive self-seeding.
- Health condition: The bellflower is exceptionally resilient – diseases and pests avoid it completely, making cultivation a joy even without any chemicals.
This long-lived perennial is fully frost-hardy down to minus twenty-eight degrees, so it does not require any special winter protection in the garden. In autumn, it dies back to the roots and safely survives the winter underground. You can also successfully grow the seedling in a spacious container on a terrace. In that case, ensure a thick drainage layer at the bottom of the pot and a quality well-drained substrate. Plants in containers require slightly more frequent watering and regular fertilizing so they have enough strength to produce their brilliant blue-purple flowers.

Perovskia are sparsely branched subshrubs, originating from areas ranging from Afghanistan to Tibet. They grow in open, sunny, rocky, and stony habitats. Their white-felted shoots and grayish aromatic leaves are striking. They fit well in sunny flower beds with other drought-loving perennials, where they create interesting structures even in the winter months. Little Spire is a smaller cultivar suitable even for pots with a soil volume of 7 liters or more.

This species of sage originates from the steppe regions of Central and Eastern Europe. It forms abundantly flowering small clumps with straight upright stems. In beds, it looks best in groups. Traditionally, it is planted as a companion to roses due to the matching flowering time. However, it will look equally good in mixed drought-loving steppe plantings with grasses. It is an excellent food source for bees. It lasts 7 days in a vase. Schneehügel blooms white.
