Linum usitatissimum

Flax setý Sky Blue

For drying, use the round seed pods that flax forms after flowering. You need to catch the right time when they are mature and the stem below the capsule is firm. Don't wait too long, though, to achieve a nice golden color after drying. Simply hang them upside down in a dry, ventilated place, away from direct sunlight. Show full description

Statice is a classic from grandma's garden and an evergreen for dried flowers. We grow hundreds of statice! It's incredibly useful in bouquets as a filler material, and even undried, it lasts a long time in a vase. Once all the small flowers on the stem have bloomed, statice no longer wilts and is perfect for wreaths, corsages, and boutonnieres. For several years, we've been searching for a truly blue shade of statice, as most are always purplish, but QIS Pale Blue is the closest to blue of them all. One plant produces at least 15 stems. For drying, we harvest statice when the stem below the flower is firm and the entire inflorescence has bloomed. Simply hang them upside down in a dry, ventilated place, away from direct sunlight.

Summer stock is a fantastic cut flower! It loves cool temperatures, and we can still grow three batches a year – two in spring and one in autumn. You'll harvest only one flower per plant, but it will be a truly large, fully double bloom. Stock has a wonderfully intoxicating scent and lasts a long time in a vase. The flowers are edible. Katz series is not as susceptible to temperature changes and is generally easier for beginner gardeners to grow. However, this comes at the cost of thinner stems and a smaller proportion of double-flowered specimens. Katz Cherry Blossom is a delicate shade of pink, in the colors of apple blossoms. All stocks have some plants with double flowers and some with single. The proportion varies with each series. Katz has 55-60% double-flowered plants. Therefore, we recommend growing a bit more. But here on our farm, we also use the single ones; they are super unique.

Papaver rhoeas

Poppy with black centers, similar to anemones. In terms of color, it's a mix of marbled shades from white through red and pink to burgundy. We have been growing wild poppies since the first days of Loukykvět, and this year we are returning to them again. Wild poppies require more care as a cut flower and don't last as long in a vase. But! They are such a beauty that it's still worth it. Here's our guide for wild poppies. We harvest freshly burst buds. It's enough to see a crack on the bud and the color within. A wild poppy has only a few petals, so it takes a little while to open. We trim the ends fresh and blanch them in hot water (just boil the water and use it immediately), or char the ends with a flame. Heat helps the poppy open the pathways for water absorption and prevents wilting. In bouquets, we arrange freshly opened pieces or buds, with the understanding that the poppy will open during the day. If you plan to sow poppies just for pleasure in the flowerbed, none of this is necessary, of course :). For drying, we harvest mature poppy pods, roughly from mid-July. Simply hang them upside down in a dry, airy place, out of direct sunlight.

You can't imagine anything more meadow-like! It's a great shame that it can only be grown in cooler temperatures. The Tall Double series is a fuller-flowered cornflower than what we see along roadsides. And Black Boy is a completely unprecedented piece. The color is dark burgundy to black.
