Coreopsis verticillata

If you are looking for a delicate and long-blooming plant for full sun, whorled tickseed is a great choice. The basic species originates from North America, and here it thrives best in a sunny spot and well-drained, rather drier loamy soil. Although it is a short-lived perennial, with the right care and a well-chosen location, it can bring joy for several years. A distinctive feature of this species is its rich foliage of very tiny leaves, which form low, about forty-centimeter-tall bushes. After transplanting from the pot, the mature seedling is perfectly suited for the edges of flower beds or mixed drought-tolerant compositions, where it beautifully softens the overall look. In addition, the plant is fully frost-hardy, requires no special care, and is free from diseases. The 'Moonbeam' variety stands out with countless smaller, creamy-yellow flowers. These appear in mid-summer and continue to decorate the garden until early autumn, providing rich pasture for pollinators. You can easily cut the delicate stems with flowers to bring home. They will add an informal meadow touch to bouquets and will maintain their freshness in a vase for about seven days.

Coreopsis

The delicacy and incredible abundance of flowers make coreopsis an indispensable plant for every lover of airy flowerbeds. In the garden, it will especially appreciate full sun and well-drained loamy soil. It is an exceptionally undemanding plant that does not suffer from pests or diseases. It forms compact clumps from which floods of flowers grow throughout the summer until autumn. It is perfectly suited for the edges of flowerbeds or in the company of shorter drought-tolerant grasses. The Full Moon variety will captivate you with its more vigorous growth and beautiful light yellow, almost creamy shade. Unlike other cultivars, its color looks very soft and thus easily combines with more prominent perennials. Although it is a short-lived perennial, by regularly removing faded stems, you will support its vitality. The sturdy stems with flowers are absolutely ideal for summer bouquets, giving them a meadow character, and they will stay beautiful in a vase for approximately seven days.

Coreopsis verticillata

The bright yellow flowers of tickseed will reliably illuminate any sunny garden. In the wild, the native species grows in dry, sunny areas of North America, so it will most appreciate full sun and well-drained loamy soil here as well. It forms bushy, exceptionally fine clumps, topped with a profusion of tiny flowers from mid-summer onwards. Although it is a short-lived perennial, its lifespan can easily be extended by planting it in a drier location, where it handles severe frosts without issue. It is a completely low-maintenance plant avoided by pests and diseases, making it easy for beginners to care for. It looks brilliant at the front of mixed borders, where its fine foliage fills the gaps between bolder plants. The Zagreb variety is exceptional for its compact habit and the intense golden hue of its flowers, which are a major draw for bees and other pollinators. It blooms tirelessly until early autumn, providing an abundance of material for flower arranging. The flowering stems are excellent for cutting, lasting around seven days in a vase while adding an airy lightness to displays.
