Peony

Peonies are striking perennials to add to your garden. Their large blooms attract attention at first sight, whether you choose soft pink, deep red, or coral shades that change color beautifully as they bloom. These are plants that can stay with you for decades. Growing them, however, requires a bit of patience. It can take a few years for them to properly establish their roots after planting and start flowering profusely. If you don't see any blooms in the first year, it is perfectly normal—the plant just needs time to develop. Once they settle into their spot, they will reward you every spring with a reliable flood of flowers, which follow on nicely in the flowerbeds after the earlier blooming tulips. When planning your flowerbeds, keep in mind that they need plenty of space and a sunny spot. They thrive in well-drained soil and must not be planted too deeply, otherwise they won't bloom. When you give them the right conditions, peonies will become a permanent and rewarding part of your garden.

Paeonia

Peonies are valuable in gardens for their large and impressive flowers. They are long-lived perennials for patient gardeners. It takes them several years to grow to full beauty and before you see abundant blooming. Therefore, a blooming peony right the first year after planting is rather an exception, definitely not the rule. To bloom, it needs time and the right conditions. Study our growing guide. Herbaceous garden peonies are one of the longest-bred garden plants and most cultivars have their origin in Chinese and medicinal peonies, which have long been part of monastery gardens. Today we combine them with perennials, grasses, and bulbs. But we always give them enough space in the bed. Alertie is a light pink peony with a delicate fragrance and earlier flowering time. The flowers gradually fade to white. Potted peonies can be planted from spring to autumn.
