Paeonia
Peonies are valuable in gardens for their large and impressive flowers. They are long-lived perennials for patient gardeners. It takes them several years to grow to full beauty and for you to see abundant flowering. Therefore, a blooming peony in the very first year after planting is more of an exception, certainly not the rule. Besides time, it needs the right conditions to flower. Check out our growing guide. Herbaceous garden peonies are one of the longest-bred garden plants, and most cultivars originate from Chinese and medicinal peonies, which have long been part of monastery gardens. Today, we combine them with perennials, grasses, and bulbs. However, we always give them plenty of space in the flowerbed. Duchesse de Nemours is one of the oldest peonies, bred as early as 1856. Thanks to its brilliant white color and medium-sized flowers, which combine perfectly with other flowers, it belongs among the most popular wedding peonies. Potted peonies can be planted from spring to autumn.
