You can arrange them fresh in a tall floor vase or dry them for long-lasting interior decorations. If you want to dry them, cut them just after they fully open and hang them flower-side down in a dry, dark place.

The great news is that pampas grass is highly resilient and virtually does not suffer from any pests or common plant diseases. Your biggest enemy is not insects or mold, but excessive soil moisture and winter wetness.

The ideal location is a sunny, south-facing slope that can dry out very quickly.

They have a beautiful light pink to pastel pink hue, which adds a very delicate and exotic touch to the garden. Moreover, the plant creates a wonderful winter effect when the frost-covered inflorescences remain on the plant throughout the winter.

The cultivar is derived from the botanical species Cortaderia selloana, which originates from South America. It grows wild there on huge grassy plains called pampas—hence the common name 'pampas grass'.

In its natural habitat, which stretches from Brazil to Patagonia, it reaches gigantic proportions and plays a very important ecological role.

Pampas grass (Cortaderia selloana) itself is not toxic to humans or pets. However, it does present a certain physical danger.

Its long, narrow leaves have extremely sharp edges that curious animals (or even you) can easily and painfully get cut by. Therefore, it is best to plant it in a spot where pets or small children will not be pushing directly through its growth.

If your plant refuses to bloom, check the following factors:

• Lack of sun: Pampas grass loves full sun. It will bloom very little, if at all, in the shade.
• Inappropriate nutrition: Poor soil, or conversely, over-fertilization with nitrogen, which promotes leaf growth at the expense of flowers.
• Age of the plant: Be patient. Young seedlings must first establish themselves well and sometimes do not bloom until the second or third year after planting.

Try fertilizing the plant early in the spring with a fertilizer containing higher amounts of phosphorus and potassium.

The best and most reliable way to propagate pampas grass is by dividing the clumps.

This should be done exclusively in the spring, around April, when the plant begins to slowly sprout after winter. Use a sharp spade to cut off the healthy, outer parts of the clump and immediately plant these divisions in a new, sunny location with well-draining soil.
