Talinum paniculatum
If you are looking for something truly unusual for your garden that does not require complex care, *Talinum paniculatum* 'Jewels of Opar' will certainly not disappoint you. This species originates from the regions of Central and South America, where it inhabits drier and sunny areas. It loves well-drained, rather sandy soil and can easily handle occasional lack of moisture. We send our customers a fully grown seedling in a pot, which just needs to be transplanted to your chosen location, whether in full sun or light partial shade. We recommend a planting spacing of thirty to forty-five centimeters. The plant takes hold very quickly, and cultivation is so simple that even absolute beginners can manage it without any issues. It forms bushes with a height of sixty to ninety centimeters that do not need support and do not require any pinching. From June to September, long thin stems grow from them, on which delicate, fuchsia and light pink flowers gradually bloom. Although they are only five millimeters in diameter and do not have a scent, they bloom in great quantities. The flowers are not only beautiful and attractive to pollinators, but are also fully edible, and the plant is completely avoided by pests and diseases. Although it is an annual and will not survive winter frosts, it likes to reliably reseed itself in the garden. In mixed plantings, it looks incredibly airy and perfectly complements the heavier, fuller flowers of other plants. If you like creating your own arrangements, be sure to cut a few stems for your home as well. In a vase with fresh flowers, it acts as a perfect misty filler. After flowering, small round seed pods form from the tiny flowers, looking like small gemstones. These are perfect for drying and for floral work in dried arrangements.
