Eryngium planum

A perennial that finds its use in naturalistic steppe and gravel beds. It attracts bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. It's floristically valuable for its flowers with striking bracts, which are also perfect for drying. The roots of some species were once candied as sweets in England and France and added to pastries and jellies. In herbal medicine, it was used, among other things, as an aphrodisiac, hence its folk name 'male fidelity'.

Alchemilla mollis

Lady's mantle naturally grows in mountain pastures and meadows, and in mixed forests. It is ornamental both in leaf and flower. The leaves have fine hairs, giving the plant a velvety character. It is a perennial sought after by ancient alchemists for the dew drops that appear in the leaf fans. Valuable for florists for its abundance of tiny greenish-yellow flowers. Important in beds for its ground-covering nature. It lasts 10 days in a vase.

Anemones belong to the same family as buttercups. With their elegant flowers on long, slender stems, they can brighten and enliven late summer and autumn beds. They stand out against the darker background of shrub groups and will also be grateful for their partial shade. The Czech Perennial Society chose autumn anemones as the perennial of the 2022 season. They last 7 days in a vase. Serenade is a delicate and vigorous cultivar. The flowers are semi-double, light pink with a center formed by prominent yellow stamens. Stems are strong and upright, with no tendency to flop.

Rudbeckia fulgida

Coneflowers (Rudbeckia) originate from North America and are robust and profusely flowering perennials of late summer and autumn. They are suitable for prairie plantings with tall grasses and for country gardens by cottages. The central cones, after the seeds ripen, look very effective and adorn perennial beds even through winter. For vases, harvest them as soon as they bloom. Vase life is 7 to 10 days. Dry central cones can also be used. Goldsturm is its most famous cultivar. It has bright golden-yellow flowers with dark centers.

Hesperis matronalis

A relatively short-lived, biennial to perennial plant with an enchanting fragrance and a long flowering period. A beautiful addition to rose beds, also suitable for country-style plantings. It can be used as undergrowth beneath taller shrubs and trees. It smells noticeably more fragrant in the evening and at night, attracting night moths. For cutting, harvest as soon as the first few flowers open. Stems can grow a little more even after cutting, so factor this in when creating arrangements. Lasts 5 to 7 days in a vase. A beautiful, elegant white variety of the original species.

Ammi visnaga

Orlaya likes low temperatures, so it's a purely spring and autumn beauty. It adds a fresh and airy effect to all bouquets, and the same goes for garden beds. The flowers are composed of individual tiny florets resembling lace, which is why we use it instead of baby's breath. "Casablanca" is a larger Orlaya, the plants are taller and more robust, the stems firmer, and it doesn't fade as quickly. Nevertheless, we recommend multiple sowings rather than just one.

Helleborus orientalis

Hellebores are evergreen perennials that form slowly spreading clumps of leathery, dark green leaves. Stems typically bear four to five flowers. They bloom very early, in late winter and early spring. They are suitable for vases only after prominent seed pods form in the center of the flower and the flower matures. Before that, they tend to wilt and the stems cannot hold the flower upright. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Double Ellen Red is a double-flowered hellebore with rounded petals of dark burgundy-red with a lighter undertone on the lower row of petals.

Stipa tenuissima

Stipa flowers captivate in beds and bouquets with their lightness and delicacy. All stipas love full sun and dry, stony, well-drained soil. To make them look as natural as possible in beds, it is good to plant them in several pieces in loose groups along with other drought-tolerant perennials and bulbs. Only then will their stems and inflorescences come alive with the slightest breath of wind. 'Ponny Tails' is a species native to the steppes of Mexico, Texas, and Patagonia. Airy, dense tufts of hair-like, delicate leaves resemble horsehair. The leaves are green, turning straw-colored towards the flowers. It even self-seeds in a suitable location.
