Airy, dense clumps of hair-like delicate leaves resemble horsehair. The leaves are green, turning up to straw-colored towards the flowers. In a suitable location, it also self-seeds.

Lemon balm is an essential part of any herb garden, immediately enchanting you with its fresh lemon scent. It originally comes from the Mediterranean and Asia Minor, where it grows in sunny locations. In our climate, it will do great in ordinary loamy soil in full sun or partial shade. The green leaves are fully edible and you can use them in refreshing drinks and soothing teas. For drying, collect them before blooming; that is when they have the most valuable essential oils. The long green stems have also found their place in floristry as a fragrant bouquet filler, and you can cut them practically anytime during the summer.
